Signs of a great youtuber: teaches me about a machine i will never buy and provides information about international buying which i will never use....but keeps it interesting as hell where i wind up staying and enjoying anyway :)

I've done importing and customs work myself before. Its difficult the first time, but then you save a lot of fees in the long run if you plan on importing a bunch of stuff.
@ADHDbuilt6 жыл бұрын
I think my wife would have killed me if I imported heaps of stuff sadly. But if I ever get rich and need lots of stuff, and have a bigger shed, it'll be on the cards.

Looks like a true quality machine - you never regret buying quality, in fact you thank yourself every time you use it. With this machine though I would be worried about spares - unless you know that its also sold under a brand somewhere in the West
@ADHDbuilt6 жыл бұрын
Spares are easy, it's a clone of a local machine, plus I almost bought plenty of spares by accident. Lets hope I don't need to though.

Did the same thing, most US and Canada woodworking products came from Taiwan and China Manufacturers. You just need to find a good logistics forwarder!

I had basically the same experience importing a Laser cutter/engraver but I still think I saved $1500. To do it you need, Google Translate, trust, time, an Australian/local freight forwarder to sort out the paperwork and Australian/local Insurance. And don't forget that there will be little support and no realistic warranty :)
@ADHDbuilt6 жыл бұрын
Yup. I still love my machine though!

Hey mr woodworking guy, if you are concerned about sound leakage, build your damn workshop! Obviously you are motivated. Tell people close to you about it and how long you have ignored your need for it. Be sure to pour at least a 15-inch foundation.

It's not buying direct just buying machines made for the chinese market lower price and quality like the ones they produce. You can find them in local stores too the guarantee just not work the two years they do else.

I have a feeling this will be a very handy video for you in the future. "where did you get that Jinteng thicknesser? How much did it cost?" etc etc 😀

True. It's an unusual brand. I more made it because I couldn't find any proper information on it anywhere.

Man I'm in the same position as you with this. I found the absolute perfect machine that seems to only be available in China. It's an agricultural equipment supplier that makes really small heavy machinery and I want one BAD. If not a few for my growing business. Do you have any advice on where to research importing fees and all that? I'm in the states so it's a pretty long boat ride and I have no idea where to start.
@PatrickFisher13 жыл бұрын
I import stuff sometimes and I get a customs broker to handle the import paperwork for me. That way you don’t have to go to the entry port to receive the item yourself. I’ve doe the paperwork myself before too but it’s not worth the headache. If you’re in Australia then the entry point must be a shipping port. For me it is usually the Canada/USA border. Ask a local business if they can recommend a customs broker, and that is a good place to start.

I don't know if I would buy directly from China. What if something goes wrong with it, how would you claim warranty? I think I'd spend the extra for piece of mind. But then again, I suppose it is something to think about.
@daw1626 жыл бұрын
Buy through a service that guarantees a tool will be what it says it is initially, and then give you ability to make a claim if needed. Beyond that, I've bought tools from Delta and Jet that really weren't fit for sale as finished, but in both cases, they were "within spec", just at the edge of it, so there was no remedy. In the case of the delta, I had nearly a hundredth of an inch of runout at the blade gullet on a table saw (which they said was fine - that puts deep swirls all over the edge of a board no matter how well fed the board is), and on the Jet bandsaw, one wheel was out of true about 7 thousandths, so you could never get a smooth cut sawing something. I had to take a loss selling them. In fact, looking for service turned out instead to be a waste of time. I'd have been better off just addressing those two items myself. A few layers of tape on the bandsaw wheel solves the problem, even though it's garish, and I sold the TS before I ever fixed it, but spent more time trying to get CS to do something.

Australia must have much better consumer relation laws. You can send that stuff back without them saying anything. Doesn't count when I bought it from China though.

I looked into importing a 3 wheel cargo bike can't get a strait answer about custom charges on this end and trucking charges to get it from Port to Me maybe 90 miles I think picking it at dock My self would save a,lot
@ADHDbuilt6 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on where you live, I don't think the dock would let me come and collect sadly :(

I will look into it dock pick up or at a dockside warehouse VS trucking Charges
@waltlars36876 жыл бұрын
I am a retired trucker so picking up at a dock is normal to Me if I can Pick it up I will since trucking charges are based on cubic footage of the shipment My crate will be at least 2.5 meters long and I am only 100 KM away oneway so it might it might work out being a dockside warehouse pick might work out for Basicly more info will needed
