It just seems more "real" and relatable, IMO. He doesn't necessarily need a costume, unless it's a big production. Even then, he'll play the Royal Albert in a zip-up hoodie... or a black tutu. You know, like one would be dressed for grocery shopping. hahaha
@shitmultiverse14043 жыл бұрын
@@Sc-tch you go grocery shopping with a tutu?
@Ravelle173 жыл бұрын
@@Sc-tch he has hangups just like everyone else. I’ve seen him live many times and the best performance by far was during the Empath tour in Brooklyn, just before COVID, when they didn’t even have a lighting budget and all the money went towards the musicians and the crew. everyone came out in regular clothes, there were no backing tracks, and they proceeded to give some of the greatest live performances I have ever heard

My favourite part about this is you can see how much Deadhead as a song means to him because of how much he puts into this, and doesnt fuck about during it at all, but just falls into a zone. One of the reasons its one of my favourite songs is because of the pain and honesty that you can feel and hear in his words.
@ComaDave10 жыл бұрын
Yeah. That song (indeed, all of "Accelerated Evolution") is about him and his wife.

Well, sometimes he does fuck about during Deadhead ;) First song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYm6nqCipLB5aM0 Edit: but yeah, he did look like he didn't want to be there, and fucked about to hide his discomfort and lack of flow (hide more from himself, than from others, happens to me all the time).

Honestly, I think what I love most about Deadhead is the emotion he always puts into that song. I've seen him a bunch of times, and seen videos and such of it, and every other song he jokes through, plays with the crowd, does his thing. As soon as he starts Deadhead, he's into it. Nothing else. No jokes. No banter. Just pouring his heart into it.

One of my favorite Dev moments: Saw DTP open for Gojira in Toronto, and they were having tech issues. This eventually led to Devin yelling into the mic "We're so metal, we don't NEED a kick drum!"
@ComaDave10 жыл бұрын
The first show of their 2013 tour here (Brisbane), they had all kinds of technical issues. It was their first show in eight months and everybody was a tad rusty. Dev just strummed away and cracked gags for about 30 minutes until they were sorted. :-) The guy has a career as a Vegas Lounge Lizard just waiting for him!

That song gives me goosebumps all over, and has done since the first time I heard it years and years ago. Simply one of the best songs ever in my opinion. ComaDave If you really do know that guy then you are a lucky person. Dev played at a music festival in Sydney a couple years ago (Soundwave festival I think) and the only reason I bought a ticket was because I knew he was going to be there. I have social anxiety (and regular anxiety), crowds panic me and I really do not like being surrounded by people. The ONLY reason I went was because Dev was playing. I even had to ditch my friends and go stand in the crowd by myself (wasn't a lot of ppl there but still...too many for me). Deadhead is still my favourite song, and partly because of Dev I have started playing again, and just recently have started learning to play Deadhead. I have been working on pinch harmonics (I suck at them but hey...kinda hard to get to grips with them when you only have acoustic to practise on). If you can, tell Dev I said 'Thank you'; because he has inspired me, and carried me through massive depression, and made me want to play the guitar again. Also, if he is still waiting for it...I make a very good cup of coffee, it is not fetid at all :)
@ComaDave9 жыл бұрын
Good man. :) I know Dev from being Administrator of his Forum for quite a few years. I wouldn't call us best buddies...but he knows me well enough to crap his pants when I bumped into him at a Scar The Martyr show at The Commodore in Vancouver a couple of years back. I won't see him until next he ventures Down Under again...so hopefully you'll get a chance to thank him in person. He's so polite, patient and accommodating with fans...hang out after your next Dev show and say "G'day". He'll appreciate it. :)
