One of the first great Westerns I saw on returning to the USA in 1960. Music has stuck with me for decades too. Man I miss them days. Thanks for sharing with us all. 👍👍 10⭐

If Randolph Scott ever played in a bad movie it wasn't a western. He looked and acted the part of a cowboy from head to toe. His unique acting style seems totally natural.
@ronmcgill93667 ай бұрын
Very interesting cinematography because the entire film was on location. Not a studio film-set in sight. The landscapes were stunning, more so because of the sweeping vistas captured by the cinemascope projection. Meanwhile, the story: a quiet western with the stalwart Randolph Scott, rescuing a woman, captured by Comanche Indians. The end has a stunning twist.

This is probably only the second movie of Randolph Scott that I've watched so far but I can safely say that he belongs to the genre of other greats such as Scott Glen,George Montomery,Clint Walker,James Stewart,Gary Cooper etc.Comanche Station was a very authentic and beautiful movie.Breathtakingly original and beautiful scenery.Good supporting cast and well acted.❤

Comanche Station was a perfect Coda to the Randolph Scott/Budd Boetticher colloborations. They really made some masterpieces of the western genre.

I believe that they made seven films together.

Some similarities to The Tall T which I rate slightly higher than this. The Richard Boone character gives the Tall T story more depth. Claude Akins, despite his perpetual grin, is always a known, amoral killer.
@JDSFLA7 ай бұрын
@@Baskerville22 Dan Duryea had a similar typeset, but you could add sniveling cad. Always interesting how actors sometimes are trapped in a stereotype for their entire careers.

@@JDSFLA I don't disagree....but my comment about Claude Akins was actually about the character Akins played in Comanche Station. Dan Duryea is one of my favourite actors, particularly in Westerns. Have you seen him in Ride Clear of Diablo, with Audie Murphy ?

The "Comanches" depicted in this movie are wearing a hair style more typical of the Pawnee tribe. Comanches took great pride and care of their hair. They wore their hair long, parted down in the middle with two braids worn down the side.

This particular bunch of Comanches were having an identity crisis. They cut their hair like Mohawks and had to leave their home grounds. That is why they wound up in Apachería, in SW New Mexico. Hard times.

Second time I have watched it, almost same plot as the movie with Adam Cartright, Trapper John MD, Pernell something. Different endings. So not to be annoying, because I write westerns, but nobody ever considers the monetary value of things. Those horses were worth at least $100 each, the pistols $50 each, the rifles were repeaters, sold for about $200 back in the 1870s. Even good mules were worth $50. So they started off doing well, taking the horses with them, but by the time they arrived at Lordsburg, all of it gone. Average person only made $1 a day, six days a week for 10 hour work days, only $300 a year. So to lose ten or eleven horses, two mules, all those guns and saddles ... bothers me. Where does the main character get the money to continue. Still costs money to buy staples. He was in no position to throw away thousands, and at least ask for his $200 back. And another little wrinkle, laws back then against trading guns with the Indians, a hanging offense. Everyday living, especially now, costs money, the movie makers never considered it. Book writers were the same. Jane Austen, P&P even mentions money, but not where it comes from. !0,000 pounds a year was a huge fortune, so what did they do to earn it?

Regarding this from your synopsis, - " Ben Lane wishes to kidnap and kill her to receive a hefty reward from her husband." That's not correct. Lane intends killing Cody - who rescued Mrs Lowe - in order to get the $5,000 reward from her husband. The husband wanted his wife returned even if she was no longer alive. Lane knows that if he kills Cody to get the reward, Mrs Lowe cannot live to report the murder of Cody. Your synopsis suggests that the husband wanted his wife killed.
