If you was using Jay hooks, you would’ve probably hook majority of the fish that you lost just saying circle hooks is not the way to go

Circle hooks and those bait casters not it for docks. Gotta use the j hooks and spinners to get those fish out

I would not say that necessarily, I belong to a Tarpon club and the average fish is 80 pounds. 90% of the guys are using Penn 116H and a broom stick. Definitely need some heavier braid and leader. Maybe no braid and 50 lb quality mono so you have some forgiveness. Snook are bruisers, I lost so many quality fish over the years.

I know the people that insist on buying the most line add ons like swivels and such will probably disagree with this. Rigs are expensive and most tackle salesmen want you to buy as much as you can and lose as much as you can so you have to buy more. In my experience when fish are aggressive, I tie my braid directly to the hook or snap. Try it sometime and you'll find you get about the same amount of bites and very little break offs. 😆
@SunsOutFishing4 ай бұрын
You might be right but for this type of fishing I really think you need the abrasion resistance of the heavier monofilament or fluorocarbon

I kayak fish a lot and I want to revive catches but I had a 5 foot shark attack my Jack hanging over the water while trying to get the hook out, I don’t want to loose my hand reviving a snook that gets eaten by a shark and takes my hand with it.
@SunsOutFishing6 ай бұрын
I hear you, luckily the area we were in doesn’t have too bad of a shark problem.
