Multiplayer H2H PBEM on WeGo and Elite vs Sspoom from the FGM.
1st Co are tasked with patrolling the nearby woodland, an American patrol is expected to be in the vicinity.

I was just looking to get into Cm after a long while and found your very well done AAR. Are these Symbolsstock nowadays, with the latest patch or modded? I assume modded. Would you mind providing me with a link to the mod? Best Regards

Heavily modded using multiple mods. I have over 20 mods for CMFB and over 50 for CMFI. I use mostly Aris mods for the vehicle textures, terrain, horizon & sky, smoke, dust and flame effects. I also use a sound mod but I'm not sure which one as I just have it listed as 'Sounds' in my folder. I use Juju's UI and Cattactical Icons Links to the mods are here; cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/

Thanks for the AAR. Always enjoyable. A few comments for this one though: 1: The manic screaming sound mod gets a bit grating after a while. I know war is hell, but this seems over the top. 2: The shiftning camera angles and many closeups make it difficult to follow the big picture. Maybe you could try to choose for example that Germans are always on the left, and the US always on the right. Just like in movies when two people have a dialogue, one always looks right, the other left. 3: This map was quite open without a lot of cover. I got a bit of a "first person multiplayer run and gun" feel from the AAR. Difficult to appreciate the tactical situations and choices made along the way.

Hi Quixote, thanks. You have an interesting post and raise some good points; 1. Although you are the first to mention it, I agree with you on this. The sound file that plays is a bit long and over the top for the purposes of the game. When editing I am frequently waiting for the sound file to stop playing before I can start recording again. I understand how some viewers would find it a bit grating. I will look at changing this for future vids although the next vid due out is already being edited so that will still have the current sound files. 2. You make a good case here and I have thought about it before. I think I convinced myself at the time that some shots are just better from angle A than from angle B based on what was happening, whats going on in the background, terrain features etc, regardless of which side the unit was on that was currently being recorded. I have recently re-watched Waterloo (1970) and the dialogue effect you referred to is in use in the film for the armies. The Allies are generally portrayed as being on the left of the screen advancing towards the right and the French are generally shown as being on the right of the screen advancing towards the left. There are time when this effect is deviated from, but when it is, it is usually clear because of some other feature in the shot such as shots around the fight for La Haye Sainte where the attackers and defenders have already been established. I agree with your point and will look at implementing it for my next vid (not the current one being edited). 3. I'm not sure I follow your meaning on this point. I try and make viewers aware of the tactical situation via the updates I make at various points. If you would prefer a more top down method of narrative following the action then I'm afraid its not something I'm willing to do. I think that for the type of game CM is that the models are excellent and I am in awe of some of the details that designers & modders put into vehicle, uniform & equipment detail and I consciously want to showcase this. There are obviously some animations which look a bit off - most notably embarkation/disembarkation and AT guns but I try and keep away from these as much as possible. When situations dictate I make a supplementary update to explain a change in situation. Thanks

About the last point, I did not mean that you should stop doing your AARs in a cinematic way - they're great. I meant that because this map is quite open with a bit of trees, there's not a lot of map features for the viewer to lock on to and get a feeling for the terrain and the locations. Some maps have distinct looking orchards, copses, patches of opn ground, churches, etc. that make anchor points for the viewer: "Ah ok, this is a scene from the church area, and now we're back at the fighting for the bridge". I'm not blaming you at all, it's just that some maps lend themselves more readily to be decoded by the viewer who might not have played the battle himself (I for one haven't...)

Ok I see. Yes I could have made some of the features stand out a bit more. It is something which I have done better in later AAR's. As I progress I get feedback from viewers such as yourself and have my own ideas which help improve the enjoyment of these AAR's for everyone. I have found your comments useful. Thank you.

Managed a German tactical victory only took way point Claudia. 2nd Game I played so far. My infantry knowledge a bit rusty after 40 years.. Body count was in my favour. Tactic was op and ambushes.

Thanks, the vehicle, visual and terrain mods I use are all Aris. I also use JuJu's Blitz UI and CatTactical Icons. I can't recall the sound mod I use as its just labelled 'sound' in my mod folder but its one of the more popular ones.

Very Nice AAR enjoyed it alot. Would be nice if you could do a PXR (Post Exercise report) report along with this at the end. PXR is there to lay out good and bad points of the engagement and what you would have done different from your point of view. If your ever interested in a game give me a shout on FGM. Also I upload CM games I play as well so we could do something with that. My stuff is no wear near as good as what you porduce.

The touch-four-objectives mission seems a little weird. What real-life mission is it meant to represent. Maybe a recon in force or some such?

Whilst some of the scenarios depict real life events as closely as possible, others tend to take a bit of creative licence on those events and some are just completely made up for a bit of fun. This scenario falls into the 3rd category but it does provide a very balanced game unlike some of the more realistic scenarios.
