Combat Mission: Red Thunder is a Wargame that tries to authentically portray combat on the Eastern Front of WW2 during the summer of 1944 during Operation Bagration the most successful Soviet offensive of the war.
The game operates on a turn based 'we-go' system where both sides give orders to their troops and then the game simulates the battle one minute at a time.

This game series is so cool, so hard but so rewarding after you get the idea. I just wish it had some more guided campaigns on the manual to help you through.

You might know this already but - when soldiers still have a red "+" while on the ground, they're wounded but not dead (which will display a skull and crossbones). If you can make the area safe, other troops positioned overtop of them will try to patch them up.

I found it tends to improve their moral, because left unattended some will die. In Vietnam no Australian unit left a wounded mate on his own. I can understand medics are a necessity public opinion was bad enough as it was.

A very enjoyable video, a good blend of action and sensible commentary. I have to admit that I'm not a fan of diffused trees, I prefer to see them how the men on the ground did, although that is only a minor quibble. Also, it would be nice if you could include all of the UI on screen

Hey man! Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I can already see a lot of ways that I can tidy it up and improve, so look out for the next entry in the series. The mod I'm using for the trees has different settings that allow you to make it more opaque which I might do, I'm inclined to agree with you, but the foliage is so dense that you literally can't see anything going on, which I felt was best to sacrifice for the sake of making it viewable.

No probs, thanks for the reply. A lot of video makers would agree with you. I'm just a glutton for punishment, I play the game on Iron, and with the trees Full on. I certainly look forward to the next one in this series.

Next episode is out and I managed to fix the resolution this time. I'll have to fix my commanding skills in episode 3 though...

Good Video, I went with base of fire with one squad split, Sniper and MG units and the two Armored cars on the left..... After base of fire was established moved the Scout sections towards "attack Route with one squad moving behind as well as HQ. When the T-34's arrived we had good view of enemy.. T-34's supported destruction of elements on Hill while being in cover. Moved base of fire squad to rejoin HQ at 'Attack Route".... assaulted Hill with one T-34 and both BA-64's... Meanwhile the Snipers and MG suppress AT-Gun.... very fun scenario.

Bagration ended up with the destruction of Army Group Centre. Pyotr Bagration was a Russian General during the Napoleonic wars. A sniper is actually the intelligence gather of the battlefield, taking out key personnel when the opportunity arises. Best keep them under cover, in this game I can recall only one example of a sniper turning the battle around. He took out a HQ Tank commander of a Tiger tank which affected the morale. After the incidence the game turned my way.

I would be interested to ask players to see what their opinion is upon "Missing" troops. Where do they go? Why are they missing? Are they vaporized in combat explosions? Do they flee the army? I am curious as to this fact ...

They may have been killed, wounded, captured, executed, or deserted. If deceased, neither their remains nor grave has been positively identified. Becoming MIA has been an occupational risk for as long as there has been warfare. From Wikipedia Missing in action. "...more than 82,000 Americans remain missing from WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Gulf Wars/other conflicts.
