I recently learned that Japanese carriers had those familiar arrow markings on its deck to visualize to pilots where the wind was blowing. At where the lines converge, a vent shot out steam that would indicate how many degrees to the right or left* the wind went. Would be neat to have the vent modelled and functional!

Awesome!! I didn't know the carrier had 3 hangars floors.
@AmbaryernoАй бұрын
As originally built, Akagi had three flight decks. The first two hangar levels each opened directly onto the middle and lower flight decks, with the third serving as an auxiliary hangar stowing disassembled aircraft. The idea was sort of a predecessor to the modern angled deck: Aircraft could be launched from the middle and lower flight deck, while recovery operations were being performed on the main deck. However, the arrangement ultimately proved ineffective (much like the hangar catapults on the Yorktown-class and early Essex-class carriers). Additionally, the short decks were unable to handle increasingly heavy aircraft, so in 1935 she began a lengthy refit that eliminated the lower flight decks and extended the main deck to full length, which was completed in 1938. The three hangar levels were retained.

The bottom hanger was for stowing disassembled spare aircraft iirc.

Same. The third one was probably for maintenance or something since it'd be a pain to get those aircraft up in the deck and it's quite small.

I got to see Akagi loom out of the darkness on the livestream of her discovery, and watched the following 8 or so hours of her survey. there were only about 200 or so on the official stream i watched, im unsure of how many others were watching on different platforms, but to see inside those hangars that, deep below, i had the opportunity to gaze into, full of light and detail, was amazing to see. a few details i noticed, at 0:57, her name is censored out and is something i vividly remember seeing come out of the dark on the stream, is the imprints the painted-over characters showed even after all those years underwater. also, on her flight deck, the guidelines for the steam jet for landing, i never noticed she had those lines amidships as well, meaning she either had a secondary reference or more likely a second steam jet, which is something new for me. in addition, the shot at 0:33 shows the AA gun platforms whose arrangement was the first conclusive evidence that she was in fact Akagi (i had a deck plan of Akagi in front of me and have the personal boast of noticing the conclusive arrangement before it was announced on stream) and is a cool detail to see in the camera angles chosen. finally, the proper Vice-Admirals flag flying from her mast is something that you would think to be an obvious detail but also one commonly missed in other virtual environments shes featured in. there must be innumerable details which i haven't noticed after one watch, and you should know that the effort put toward them was not missed. Amazing work.

I watched almost the entire thing live as well, such a cool experience. It was frustrating at times to see them take so long to figure out where they were at times, at least until our lord and savior Jon Parshall showed up, but it was still incredible to watch it live.

I have a question: will we be getting the Kaga, Soryu and Hiryu as well? Or will it be 1 standard model for all carriers? Also for the American forces: will be getting the Yorktown and hornet as well? Additional questions: will the Japanese carriers get the steam vents indicating wind direction as well as the chakkan shidoto navigational lights?
@MexterinfiniteАй бұрын
Will steam/smoke come out near the takeoff lines to help with figuring out wind direction during takeoff?

Looking at the level of detail of this carrier, I could see that feature being part of it. Was it considered a major feature that was always utilized and depended on?

I see another "star citizen" here, too many details that don't matter. Who cares about the view below the deck of an aircraft carrier. Get to work on the fly moldel planes, otherwise you'll never finish the simulator.

Pretty awesome! Will other ships in the sim, besides the Enterprise and Akagi, have the same level of detail and reflection of reality? For example, will the Hornet and Kaga carriers have their own unique models that are different from the existing Enterprise and Akagi carriers?
