I'm 64yrs.old and remember it very well! 1962-1966 .LOVE THE INTRO! Those guys my were my heroes. The Vietnam War kind of changed all that. With the war being on T.V. it was your true reality T.V. show for that time period. Gees, you had "The Rat Patrol," and "McHales Navy" all on about the same time; by 66-67 that genre of T.V. was obsolete. Does anybody remember another war T.V. show titled the "Galliant Men", also came on the very early 60s to about 1964.

As a kid growing up Combat! was one of my favorite programs. I loved it for the action scenes but was not old enough to appreciate the depths of morality as well as humanity during war that the show had. Now being much older I see the show much differently, the action is still great but the show has so much more meaning now. It really was a great show with outstanding actors and writers. Wish they still made programs like this.

Yes I totally agree! It was my favorite show as well. I grew up in the military and knew guys who were on the ground in Europe, France and Bastogne too. So I had an appreciation for them, and loved the heart of this show. The writing and acting was excellent. They were old enough to really remember the war. If not old enough to be in it they were for living through it. It still makes me proud to be an American 👍☝️🌄

This is highly accurate on the bitter fighting between the allies and the axis. My grandpa was a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne ; a medic and rank of captain, did witness some ugly things in war while fighting in europe; things he didn't want to talk about but painstakingly did and maybe a couple of minutes and cut it off.When he did explain things, his face would contort as if somebody like stabbed him in his leg! He had been in dday 6/6/44, market garden 9/1944, and battle of the bulge late 1944 to mid Feb 1945. Grandpa was wounded in the ardennes(battle of the bulge). All 3 big skirmishes were bloody and he had very difficult time talking about it. It would be yrs. If you heard about each battle and very succinct. The conversations cut short due to emotional outburts.Very sobering!

When this program was just broadcast on the Internet, I watched it with my father. My father was a squad leader in the Japanese Army and understood the conversations of the US Army. Three years after the war, he interpreted at a prisoner of war camp and taught the contents to his subordinates. My father learned traditional swimming techniques and was able to swim silently. He was an expert at the prefectural tournament in traditional judo. When the Sino-Japanese War began, he volunteered to go to war, bringing with him his family heirloom traditional sword. He was the first soldier to land in the Philippines as a squad leader of a scouting force that traveled south from China. After that, he traveled south along the front line, passing through the Vietnamese, Cambodia, and Laos, and went to Burma, where he was disarmed at the end of the war and broke the blade of his family heirloom traditional sword, giving it up. He told me that he explained things to his comrades who did not understand English as an interpreter at the prisoner of war camp, but his combat conversations were similar to Sanders', and he understood his silent role. The American Army talked a lot, but they also talked a lot and their conversations were very noisy, which was different from the Japanese Army. The Japanese Army was focused on fighting planes without wasting bullets.

The "Hunting Rifle" may be a good, sporterized Mauser, but without a scope the standard issue Mauser is SO accurate that it easily compares to the Remington 700 (just a couple of pounds heavier). If you handpick a Mauser with proper headspace and a "good" trigger it is a very accurate rifle just as it is from the factory. I have a couple of Mausers, Enfields and Mosin Nagants. With iron sights they all shoot comparably accurate as an expensive Hunting Rifle. Scope makes the difference.

In Vietnam (my war), as it was also probably true in WW II, the radio operator had no friends. Any enemy sniper worth his salt would always gun the guy closest to the RTO as he would be a leader (squad leader, platoon leader). Also, I never went out on a two-man patrol. You never sent less than a squad out.

Christopher Franklin my uncle was in Iraq he threw the radio out the chopper when he learned they shoot for the medics and radio operators.

I agree. For a hunter, he continually gives away his position with constant talking and yelling.

Also, no soldiers in the European theatre were issued with camouflaged helmets and only officers carried Thompson's. The fact is Rick Jason didn't want to carry the Thompson because he said it was too heavy so he switched with Morrow. Morrow too complained how heavy it was so they made him one made of wood but for all 'shooting' scenes, Morrow had to use the heavy, steel one.

Kirby demoted to an M1, from a BAR? Good grief, that Kraut will talk you to death!

+PatriotNC1 haha yeah I was wondering about that. Maybe just for the part where the krout breaks his weapon. Too bad it wasn't your stupid AK's

+John Lau He was carrying the radio too. Too much weight. But, how is it that Saunders didn't have his sidearm with him.
@bogeyman10us118 жыл бұрын
+Bob Cabo Not likely. See the previous episode, Silent Cry, where Kirby is carrying his trusted sidekick, BAR, and a radio. I think his BAR is in the shop in need of an oil change, and 15K round service. LOL. or maybe, just maybe, the Prop man forgot to bring the BAR on location.

Great to see Saunders skewer that rolly polly Nazi vermin! Cage is the best with a shank but sarge can get the job done too! The hunter would have been a more worthy opponent if he would have had wings too, just sayin! Old hunters don't bounce to well as we all saw! Chalk up another one for the Sarge!

I've watch combat through the years, since it first aired when I was a young child, over and over. Most of the episodes are pretty good, even exciting. Not so with this one (which is fairly pedantic, boring, and predictable). Guess one can't hit a homerun every time at bat.
