Without fail, the Germans always, always stop right by wherever our heroes are hiding. Bonus points if the line "They're setting up a field headquarters!" is uttered.

I've studied Military History for over 35 years. If there were no Combat Journalists there would be no documentation of the war (or any pics or film of the action). There would be none of the great documentary series or even the "Military Channel". A lot of stuff seen on the History Channel wouldn't have been made. Official histories written on the war would be almost non-existent. Even guys who saw a LOT of combat only see a tiny fraction at the bottom rung of the tactical level.

The whole plot premise of this episode - looking for a site to build a bridge - is absurd. The Allied Armies did not fight across Europe without knowing where they were headed, geographically. They knew well in advance where rivers and other obstacles were located, and where best to get across those obstacles. They did not chance upon a river, then send patrols up & down the river, looking for a place to cross or build a bridge.

continued- Combat Journalists are vital to maintaining accuracy and truth in our documentation of warfare. They risk their lives just as much as any rifleman, and they do it for the greater society and for accurate documentation of vital history. We should salute the Journalists who risked their lives for the sake of their sacred profession (even if they are sort of a pain to the soldiers they accompany). Think of Ernie Pyle and his contribution to History. He gave his very life...

Remember , this was only a TV series , its not suppose to be accurate . I know the Germans are always getting killed and are lousy shots in every episode but in reality we know that wasn't true. Anyway you can't have your main characters killed off cause that would end the series. Its just entertainment , so set back relax and enjoy it.

Yet, much of this series was accurate, especially from leadership and command, as Saunders acted just like my platoon sarge did, when fired upon at Tan Sun Nhut "The Nut" airport, and over to the Iron Curtain.... The little tricks and things he taught his men are about survival.

@@doctorartphd6463 And there are a couple of episodes where the Germans are shown really smart as in "Anatomy of a Patrol". The done script was really impressive. O.k, not are all on this high standard but for someone liking computer games I understand now where the designers had taken their inspiration from. :)

@@doctorartphd6463 The tactical aspects of this series are not unreal - I always thought that if I were one of the German soldiers there, it would be very difficult for me to do better - There are many examples, such as "S05E01 - The Gun 1/4" - The enemy blew their half-track to induce us to check and search, I'd never expected it would be a trap until the enemy machine gun shoot at us, while we were already in the open without cover. I'm afraid the fate of me and other German soldiers is doomed...

sodbuster925 - I don't think that there were filter cigarettes of the type that we're seeing in these episodes until the early 50s. Many of the C-ration kits that we opened in the late 60s had been packaged during the 40s and would contain a small pack of unfiltered cigarettes. Since I didn't smoke, I would trade them for a can of something tasty from some other soldier's C-rat kit.
@dougrobertson71646 жыл бұрын
Jim Nesta Filtered cigarettes were invented in the 20’s but they were by no means common until the mid 50’s so no there wouldn’t have been filtered cigarettes during the war especially in the numbers seen on the show

I don't know about the no pics film comment. During WW II all of the services had combat photographers whose job it was to take photos and movies in the thick of battle. There were also combat artists who roamed the front making sketches. As for the journalists, they lost my respect during Vietnam.

All three of you are so full of shit I can smell you from here. You just make up bullshit, bounce it around your little echo-chamber of ignorance and then pat each other on the back for it. Of course that's the unfortunate truth about righties, you're not the brightest crayons in the box. We on the left love Combat as much as anybody else so take your BS back to infowars where you belong.

You are right, but when you go through any Film Archive from WW2 about 1/2 (or more) are from non "official" sources. However, almost all of the Aerial Footage is directly from the Military (gun cameras, etc.) so that tilts the scale back. In Vietnam I would guess we'd have seen VERY little from "official" sources compared to WW2. Military heavily censors itself as to what is released (I'm stating the obvious)...
@mikedag11762 жыл бұрын
Censors are the STAIN on America. Always that way.
