I just started last week had 2 sessions and I joined with my son. I have done karate for around 3 years when I was 14 to 17. I'm 46 now and boy what a workout much more intense than karate even though it. The skip rope really need to practise but love it

Wish the skip rope would be easier for me eventually, but I believe it's because I didn't train enough each week. I am going to do more classes these days. Muay Thai is a great martial arts.

Combat Culture put up several good questions. My view on selecting a suitable gym is to find a get gym that is convenient to you first. Go and see the gym yourself. Talk to the owner or the trainer. The legit gym will have at least one ex professional fighter, and produce successful competitive fighters. Don't waste time with fitness muaythai pad holders. Seeing competitors train will motivate you. If possible, test out the free trial class. However, for actual training, you should be able to do one on one pad work for at least three rounds. If not, scrape up for one on one training for the first month. You will save time traveling to the gym and learn much quicker. Train at least three times per week.

Privates when it fits your budget / schedule. Group classes are more manageable financially and can help your development why having different partners to work with.

bro i’ve been doing muay thai now since January and i’m loving it but man do my feet hurt. we train bare foot and after doing a few rounds of bags, pads, and skip rope my feet are killing me. How do you strengthen your feet and lower body?

I just started and I’m naturally flat footed so I know about foot pain. I do feet and toe exercises like stretching, I also would invest in a foot roller or a foot massager and it helps a ton. Any tips for a beginner?

Having hurt feet isn't specific enough. Does it hurt because you are hitting rope on your feet? Does it hurt because of kicking the heavy bag? For those you just have to keep doing them and you'll get used to it. If it hurts because you're kicking with your foot and now it hurts to move in your stance, well, make sure you're kicking with your shin not your foot. If it hurts at the very bottom of your feet (plantar fasciitis), gotta roll that out. You could even use a soup can. If it's fatiguing to stay on the balls of your feet and you feel the burn in your calves or feet, you're probably too tight or not comfortable. Practice your stance whenever you can. I always practice something when I wait for the shower to warm up. Also, flat feet shouldn't be an issue. You're supposed to keep your weight on the balls of your feet anyways. Let me know if your problem wasn't specified in my examples.

Sooo is it wrong or even racist that I want to learn Muay Thai from a Thai ?
@sn0wt1ger

I don't see why it would be. They invented the discipline and train there as a way of life and big part of their culture, so you can reasonably assume that they would be the highest skilled at it. I wouldn't discount training from other people though, like I wouldn't hold off learning Muay Thai entirely until I can find a Thai trainer, but if the opportunity ever presented itself then yeah for sure it would be valuable.

its the same as wanting to learn any sport from someone where the sport originated. its logical.
