Those are some well educated trout in that lake for sure. Had a similar fall experience at another lake north of there with lots of big fish lazily cruising and not eating with tons of flying ants and other bugs on the surface. Figured they were in a food coma after trying everything in the fly box.

Great episode! I have a very similar nemesis lake and have experienced similar frustrations and triumphs there, including monsters lazily materializing from the depths to bypass my fly and take a derisive swipe at my brightly colored float. I have on occasion had success there by allowing a wooly bugger to sink deep past the dropoff and then coyly stripping it in to try to induce the familiar double- and triple-take rejections that trout specialize in and sometimes trigger a casual strike. So exciting to play monster cutties in on 6x! Beautiful footage, BTW.

Don't feel bad that lake is super tough, my buddy did get a giant out of their last season though.
