The times I have grown rye and soybeans are really making me realize how nice it would be to have a bin that has an air floor and fan. Add that to the list!

Tough conditions, where the newish combines is nice, is the engine load. I'm always taking a peek at it to see how much the engine is laboring. I know lots like to keep it at 100% for most efficiency, but I don't like to go over 90%... that extra overhead has saved my butt numerous times. I found if have the concaves on the twin rotors are too tight is it can beat the tough material to a pulp and lets stalk materials into the hopper... so there's a sweet spot. And yes running rotors a few RPMs quicker as well for the centrifugal force to knock open the pods better without running it too fast through the separation and throwing stuff out. Biggest problem this year is plants went dormant on lighter soils... on the same plant there's ripe pods and GREEN pods. Can't combine a lot of areas yet because of it. Can't get a frost LOL.

Good point on engine load! I know i would be a lot more fuel efficient if i pushed it, but i like to stay at 75% or less in tough crops, in good going easy crops then yeah hydro ahead! We need a frost soon for beans and corn but the hay ground can use more time

If I have tough thrashing here in Australia I just go home and have some morning tea and get going when it gets to 25 degrees c. A lot of the time when doing canola, lupins or faba beans we have to pull up in the afternoon as it gets too hot and brittle and grain loss off the knife can be a problem. Happy harvesting.🇦🇺👍

Do guys run airbars to help with shatter los shatter loss?

I bet we have enough Dewey mornings in a couple weeks. In the fall that the moisture from them would probably be enough to make you The mile if you had that moisture? When every evening you can feel and you can feel the dampness in the air and the grass is wet and you have 16 to 18 hours A-day is day of that type of dampness

Jon Stevens Maple Grove Farms in the more marginal areas air reels are used to push light crop over the knife. Bat reels also have been used in the same situation. After market parts are available for the knife guards to close the gaps and prevent light short crop dropping straight through onto the ground. We are in a more reliable medium rainfall area and I use a Mac Don 2062 with a pickup reel and 2388. Very rarely I have short crops.

Lots of green stems around here,beans 12%. Makes the combine grumble! Now a bunch of rain so it will be awhile before we can go again. Happy Harvesting!

Thanks. You to. Nice part about drying beans is you keep rolling and not switch back and forth. How do the guys down south do beans? Seems like with muggy weather it would always be tough?

Very good info. Some great ideas. We go through a lot of out of the box scenarios with edible bean and ancient grains. I actually have two old Maximizers, one set up for unthrashable grains and one bean bine. Our deal with soybeans this year was a lot of green beans, yet low moisture. It’s so common they weren’t even docking for it.
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms37543 жыл бұрын
Interesting, on the old deeres do you play with the concave inserts you can snap in the rear of the concave? Edibles are a whole nother story, had some guys gut the combine and do there own setup. Then replaced glean grain and unloading auger with bigger elevators to be more gentle.

What is the highest moisture you would cut beans to put in a bin to use the fan to dry. I have no heater, just a fan. They were dry last week but we got some rain and have had some heavy due and fog in the morning. With this crazy work schedule, I don't have a lot of time to mess around with. Thanks for the great info.

If you had cold dry air I wouldn't be scared at 16 or 17. If if the forecast is gonna be drizzly and foggy and you won't be able to run the fan very much It might be better off with them standing in the field? Mike sounds stupid but one year I had some 18% beans in the bin and I had a 60000 B to you heater it's heater that I put by the fan.It worked..... If you could run Is the fan for a couple days and then core the bin That would have to help a lot
@TAHDAHFarm3 жыл бұрын
My sales man gave me the idea of running a salamander heater if I needed to use heat to dry the crop. So it doesn't sound so stupid, lol. It actually sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the info.
