I am really happy that you have returned but is there any chance that you will upload next video earlier?

Yes, it was never my intention to make this a real time series. Another excellent KZbin channel is already doing that with WW2. Looking at my schedule over the near future, it will likely be a few weeks before the next one is ready, but I do intend to continue this series into next year. Thanks for watching!

This is a great series. Specially tackling all the details of the political phase with DoD. I will love see what are plans brewing on Germany as I feel that something will happen next year. Also, we might see some great minor war advances in Asia and Spain. Great end of the 39 here

Glad you are enjoying it, and thanks for watching! I've begun filming the S/O'39 turn, hoping to be able to upload it in the next week or two. Unfortunately, real life is not cooperating as much as I had hoped it would. If I can't make the kind of progress on it as I'd like, I may take the decision to release what I have been able to do of the turn so far as Part 1 of a two part episode on S/O'39. I prefer to keep each turn as it's own, full episode, but also want to avoid long waits between episodes. Also, as more Major Powers go to war with each other, there will be a lot more on map activity, which may require some turns to be split over multiple episodes. Anyway, that's the short term plan for now. Look for the next episode some time in the next couple of weeks (or sooner, if I can manage).

My intention is to continue the series into next year (2024, not 1940). A general war has yet to break out, although it appears to be inching closer. I am hopeful of getting the next episode uploaded over the next few weeks, and ideally another before the end of November. We shall see if my real world schedule cooperates. Thanks for your patience!

Made my day! Re the Japanese - would you consider them landing in Hainan to outflank the Chinese line?

The IGHQ has been eyeing Hainan for some time now. The recent withdrawal of the MAR from China may have something to do with future developments in this direction...

Great to see a new episode, thanks for this! I think the democrats forgot the take advantage of the -1 dmr for defending in hexes with printed factories, should have slowed down japan and fascist spain after the first attack, but if you forget, you forget :)

You may very well be correct. I'll double check the rule book when I get home. That DRM was originally only used with the 2D10 Land Combat CRT, which I do not use. One of the downsides of having played a game for so many years is that sometimes subtle changes (like this one) get lost in a 96 page rule book, and old habits can be hard to break! Thanks for watching!

I have followed this with great interest and thank you for a great jorney through the game and the 1930s(in a way). I have also looked casually at AWAW and their DOD versions and found some interesting concepts but some are just to much and some seem to complicated. As an aficionado(nice word), of DOD, are there any parts that you miss or would do different?

I actually prefer the 1st edition of DoD to the later two editions. The main difference between DoD II and DoD III is that DoD II was designed for 5th edition WiF, while DoD III was designed for Final Edition (and can be made to work for Collector's Edition). DoD II/III really do turn WiF into a sandbox game, especially if the optional rule allowing MP's to leave their starting ideology is used. There are very few limits on what players can attempt to do. I know that appeals to many people. I prefer games to be a bit closer to history, which is why I prefer DoD I. That game was, in essence, a glorified scenario generator for the WiF Global War scenario. Once the General War broke out, DoD I ended and you put it away (after recording the final positions of the minor countries). With DoD III, it has become more of an integral part of the WiF game. Basically, I'd consider it WiF's "Political Module". Politics play a very minor role in the core WiF game. It's focus has always been on the military side of the conflict. This is something that DoD III addresses nicely. Overall, I like how DoD works and integrates with WiF. There's not a lot I would change. I might add a few more MP-specific political options (tied to actual historical events, or to alternate history possibilities). The biggest drawback to DoD III is that MP's must now also pay for all their political actions with the same income they have in WiF. This can hurt the production of military units. For example, in WiF each MP's Production Multiple automatically increases for free at the start of certain years. Using DoD III, you no longer get the free PM gear up. You now have to pay for it, if you want it. And that cost can be fairly substantial (the US gear up costs 10BP every time you do it). I haven't gone totally crazy with this playthrough. Instead, my main goal was to demonstrate over a good chunk of game play how DoD works and how it integrates with WiF. Show people what a combined game looks like, and hopefully give them some idea of the potential. The series is (hopefully) far from over, because there are still several things I'd like to show people. An outbreak of war in Europe may not be that far off, and when it does finally break out, it will hopefully illustrate the differences between a plain WiF game and one that uses DoD III. Thanks for watching, glad you are enjoying the series, and I hope I answered your questions!

Fantastic ! You're back ! Thanks a lot for not letting that campaign fall in oblivion ! Do you also plan to bring the tutorial series back to life ?
@thetabletopsedge Жыл бұрын
My original intent was to film additional tutorial episodes to cover the remaining rules upon completing this playthrough (since I'd have all the components out and handy). Whether I'll be able to do that depends on how much longer I can leave the game out. There is a good chance that I will need to pack up the game and transport it to a con in the first quarter of next year. If I can't resume filming tutorial episodes before then, I will plan to do it at some point afterwards.

Would you say Days of Decision would be worth playing as a standalone game without layering it with WiF?
@thetabletopsedge2 ай бұрын
That's a good question! I have not personally played it as a stand alone. The game has been designed to be played as a stand alone, so it is certainly possible. The core political systems are pretty much unchanged when it's played as a stand alone game, but the combat is greatly abstracted into Army Points. The combat system, while highly abstract, does seem viable. So if you are pressed for time/space and still want a grand strategic 1940's experience, I'd say go for it.

Zukhov must flip when he moves into mountains on the Pacific map, as it costs Motorized 5 points for mountains on tha Pac map.
@thetabletopsedge Жыл бұрын
Good catch, but I'm not using the motorized movement rates. It was introduced in earlier editions as an optional rule, and I did not care for it. It's a bit too fiddly, and not really justified at this scale. But if I WERE using motorized movement rates, you are correct. Zhukov would have had to flip when entering the mountain hex.

Once war starts, does DOD end?
@thetabletopsedge Жыл бұрын
No. This is one of the major differences between DoD II/III and DoD I. The original DoD was used strictly for the portion of the game leading up to the outbreak of "General War", at which point the minor country alignment information was noted and the DoD portion of the game went away. It essentially provided a means to create alternate starting points for a WiF campaign scenario. When DoD II was introduced, the entire DoD paradigm was revamped. Instead of being a clever scenario generator, it turned WiF into a true sandbox game. It altered the game structure from a bilateral contest between the "Axis" and the the "Allies", into a three-sided conflict between the ideologies of Fascism, Communism, and Democracy. It expanded and fully integrated politics into the WiF system. Prior to DoD II/III, WiF's political element was rather sparse (which is fine since the game seems to emphasize the military aspect of the war). I don't know if I'll get far enough with this series to demonstrate how MP's go to peace after a DoW, and how it's possible for them to even make another DoW against the same MP they had previously gone to war with. The flavor of a WiF/DoD game really depends on the play style of your group. For more historically minded groups, the addition of DoD allows for more well rounded play that introduces new options, while groups that prefer to go off script, historically speaking, can go WAY off script to their hearts' content with DoD.
