In this video we will be combining two beehives into one to insure the survival of both hives. I will move an entire resource hive into the the existing queen-less bee-barns to make each one queen-right.
About this Channel:
I hope you enjoy beekeeping and this video. This is my third season as a beekeeper and everything I have learned came from KZbin and mostly from the channels listed below.
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. That means I am bad at quite a few things.
A little about you:
If you are new to beekeeping or are interested in becoming a beekeeper this channel might be for you. In my beekeeping adventures I show everything from my beekeeping successes to my beekeeping failures. I hide nothing and am never afraid to admit to a mistake.

A bit about my channel:
This channel is primarily about beekeeping or more specifically beekeeping 101 because I am just a beginning beekeeper and I figured the best way to learn beekeeping and to be a beekeeper was to buy a flow hive, sometimes spelled flowhive or a flow hive 2 which is sometimes known as a flowhive 2 and begin building by backyard apiary so I would have a place to keep bees. Now, backyard beekeeping is not the only thing I do. I consider myself to be urban farming as I also try to grow a sustainable and edible landscape. Backyard farming for me also includes keeping chicken and building other things in my shop that will help all of the birds, bees, insects, and other natural pollinators. I learn how to feed bees and chickens while showing you my day-to-day activities in my apiary, sometimes known as a bee yard. Some people consider me a prepper and yes there is a little truth to that. I do consider this a form of prepping and becoming self sufficient. Thank you for spending time with me learning about tap hives, flow hives, honeybees, and chickens.

Yes. 24 hours is usually enough for the two hives to make friends and for the pheromone ti circulate.

I love screen combines. So much better than newspaper for me - better acceptance rate, and much less mess cleaning out chewed and propolized newspaper. Wow, those bees were unhappy with all that shaking out. LOL. It's always nice to have resource hives. You're going to be a sideliner before too long. Then you'll turn into a full on commercial beek. Oh hey, I didn't notice you're almost at 5K. Awesome, dude. People definitely need to sub to the channel.

Is it possible to combine swarm bees?

I believe so. I suspect they will all settle on a single queen if the other queen(s) are removed. That is just speculation but I believe it will work.

Do you have any idea why you’re loosing so many queens in the Bee Barns? By the way, what’s your first name?

It's not the bee barns. I had the same issue last year. Either I have a whole lot of hungry birds that eat the bees while they are on their mating flight or the Guardian entrance prevents the queens from getting back in. It's all I can figure.

Newspaper so the bees are not trapped. Only use a push in screen cage on a frame if you do not combine hives.

Push in screen goes over hatching young bees and honey and pollen do the queen can lay than lift push in cage waste of money putting queens in those little cages into giant hives to much can go wrong after shipping and not even sure what you are buying.

Just add news paper to top and bottom so the returning bees have to be introduced like the other bees

Is that a question or a statement? I just checked Sunday and all of the hives are queen right. I am very happy with the way the screen combine turned out. I have been doing combines this way for years and It hasn't failed me yet. Anyway, I have had an issue with queens not returning from their mating flights in the last couple of years. Last year it was really bad. I don't know whether they are being eaten by birds or if they can't get back through the guardian entrance but I have been plagued with this situation since I began using the Guardian entrance. @@BugFarmerBees my question was did you lose all you Queens in your new hives or was you just replacing the Queens

Oh.. My hives were split or swarmed several weeks back and all of the hives generated several queen cells/virgin queens and on four of the hives they never made it back. Like I said in my previous reply, I either have hungry birds or queens that cannot get back through the guardian entrance. Sorry, I misunderstood the question. Take care.

I’ve never heard of screen combining. I thought I made up something new when I did it a couple of weeks ago. I put the new Queen right colony (which was smaller than the Queen less colony) on the bottom board of the Queen less colony and gave them an empty brood box then I put down the screen and then stacked the Queen less colony on top which had upper entrance so as the field bees left they would come back to the other hive. I left it on for a day and took it off. I did 2 that way and both worked. Thanks for the video I always enjoy watching

Great minds. When I started doing it a couple of years ago I thought I had come up with something new as well. I think it will be catching on though. Have you tried buying a news paper lately? Newspapers are harder to find than queen bees on a full frame :-) Anyway, thank you for stopping by to have a look.
