Hubby B here, looks easy enough. I love the One Board Build videos. LB keeps telling me I should put a Bee Hive in my new garden area. 🧔🏵

Wow, that was quick and efficient. I hate wood working, but I think I'd tackle that job. Looks identical to the way my Amish boards are built with the exception of the slide groove for the plastic bottom insert. I'll have to look to see what they do there and possibly apply it to this video. Great tutorial!

Great but where does the sticky board insert go to trap varroa
@BugFarmerBees3 жыл бұрын
No sticky board with this one. However, very easy to add. If you cut a groove on three sides 3/8 up from the bottom with a standard table saw blade (1/8" wide) you could add a sticky board. I guess I should have mentioned it in the video but forgot. Sorry. I rarely use my sticky boards in GA. To hot. ventilation is more important to me. Thanks for taking the time to comment though. I really appreciate it. take care.

Did you add a piece for the mites to fall into? Is that at all needed?
@BugFarmerBees5 ай бұрын
The bees dispose of mites after a treatment or they can fall through the screen bottom.

We all do sketchy things in the shop from time to time. Another approach might be to "sneak up" on that cut - 1/2" at a time, flip, raise the blade, cut/flip/cut-raise - rinse and repeat. Not as fast.. maybe safer though
@BugFarmerBees3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe. It seems the older I get the more sketchy I get in the shop :-) Thanks for the tip and for taking the time to comment. Take care.

@BugFarmerBees2 жыл бұрын

@Amethyst19192 жыл бұрын
You'd conserve the hardware cloth by cutting it 19 inches long and then in half. Rather than 12 inches long and then to the 19 inches... Since the roll is 24 inches wide tou can get 2 pieces out of the width...
@BugFarmerBees2 жыл бұрын
Very astute observation. Thank you Amethyst19.
@winkieman6664 жыл бұрын
Do you need a special glue that the bees won't have a reaction to?

No. Just plane old wood glue. It dries clean and doesn't put off any fumes. I recomment Tight Bond 3 :-)

wish we had exact dimensions for 10 frame hive :/
@BugFarmerBees2 жыл бұрын
Its not to tough. Just measure the outside diameter of the 10 frame box and adjust accordingly. I guess the key is the design. Easy to make with a single board. Thanks for stopping in to have a look and for taking time to comment. Take care.

Can I use 1X4 and not make the funny cuts? And I can get 2X2 . And you don't need to tell me they are not that size!
@BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
Hi Donald. Sure, you can use whatever wood you choose and cut or not cut them to any size you want. That is the beauty of human agency, you can do whatever you want :-). The goal is to make a cheap and easy bottom board any way you can and as cheaply as you can build it. Thanks for stopping in to have a look and taking the time to comment. Take care.

Here's a stupid question, the kind you've come to expect from me. What's the difference between a hive and a nuke?
@BugFarmerBees4 жыл бұрын
Great Question. A NUC is short for nucleus. It is the beginning, or core of the hive and usually consists of a queen and between 3 and 5 frames of bees. It is a starter colony. When the bees are strong enough they are moved to a full hive which contains between 8 and 10 frames and allows the bees room to grow their colony and store honey.
@zonker2u808 Жыл бұрын
Last Fall I built a screened bottom board but I used cheap metal window screen. I just went out and some critter tore through the screen and ate my bees. There's about 20 bees and a queen left. So Sad.
