Combining Casio's A1000D and A1000M to make a better stainless steel watch!

In this video I'm going to take the best of both worlds from Casio's new stainless steel watches, the A1000D and the A1000M, and create a new hybrid that is nice to look at and fun to wear.
I really like the positive display of the A1000D but I'm not a huge fan of the white mother-of-pearl dial. The A1000M has a darker dial, but contains a negative display which is tough to read. So let's take the bracelet and the module from the A1000D and pop it into the A1000M stainless steel case and see how it looks!

@@Ni5ei No, you buy the A1000M (with the negative display) and then a spare movement/positive LCD display for the other (not the spare case/crystal). And you can actually just buy the positive LCD A700 movement, as it's exactly the same. I'm doing this as we speak. I actually didn't know the negative display on this watch was so horrible and I was already planning on purchasing this one plus and A700 to switch it up. Now I'm just going to swap the movements/display as shown in this video.

The point of the A1000m was not legibility. Both these watches are praised for their monotone look. The polished ring that surrounds the LCD display is nicely pronounced due to the dark display against the also dark dial. By swapping these, both watches have a now very pronounced display. All you see from afar is a small rectangle display. This in my opinion kills the very clean aesthetic of the watch. Casio makes so many other watches with perfect legibility. I don’t believe that is the focus on this model, but rather the style. Both watches after the mod look significantly more cheap and typical Casio-like. That said, they still look good to me as I appreciate all of their models. To me, however, this was a step back. Thanks for sharing and great video👍

I bought the black one, but my biggest problem and complaint with it is that the dark display is VERY difficult to read. I have to hit the light switch to read it most of the time. I wish they just kept the regular display.... So yeah, I would do this mod to get that display.

Great video! For the record, the A700 series uses the module 3472 which shares the same guide as module 3479, the one the A1000 uses. I have swapped the A700 with the A1000's module. That way you can get a readable A1000 without paying €200+ for it.

In Europe the A1000 is being marketed as a ladies' watch which may explain the MOP dials

casio's are often wrongly advertised as women's watches. Most of them are unisex and the specially made for women casio's are always very small and more rounded. The A1000 is due to its size definitely more for men.

I LOVE that the mother of pearl is difficult to see. My favorite watch company is Grand Seiko and many of their dials are similar where you really gotta make it play with the light to see the true craftsmanship of the dial.

I wear the white mop face on an aftermarket oyster bracelet. No issues. I'm buying : gold, pvd, black mop face. I'll put them on suitable : bracelets, leather & nato straps. I'm happy with mine

Its a shame these watches aren't around the £40 mark instead of £80. If they were, I'd buy both and do exactly what you've done here, and then sell the white pearl version to recoup some of the cost. It baffles me that Casio doesn't sell ALL FOUR of these colour combinations. Still, great to see a retro looking Casio with a solid stainless case (especially with a proper bracelet with a clasp), and great little mod. Good work!

@@WatchingCasio Well I've gone and done it. Unfortunately I just couldn't resist. I got them both and swapped the modules. Its nice how subtle both the marbling effects actually are in person. Even the white looks just fine. But after swapping the modules it really is night and day! The black marble face with the standard module looks so much better than the other with the inverted display, it really is strangely unclear to read unless in direct light. I'm also not a fan of the strap with the black model, the standard clasp with the white model is leagues more comfortable, and practical to wear, just tedious to remove links, shame its not standard push pins or fancy screw links but I digress. It might just be mine, but I've noticed the display (on the non-inverted version) appears slightly faded when looking at it head on, and has deeper blacks when looking at a slight angle. I'm not sure if that's normal or not.

casio had all the ingredients to make the ultimate casio but they just arranged it wrong. The black A1000 with positive display and the bracelet of the A700 is so beautiful i'd even consider it a luxury watch. The only thing that would make this the absolute best casio is a solid link bracelet and made in japan.

I like both watches but think they are overpriced at the moment for what they are. If they were priced at around £60 to £75 here in the UK I might get one. I love Casio watches and I have several of them from the lowest tier priced ones to the G-Shock watches.

So what this tells? It tells the negative display always looks sicker. You put it on white MOP dial around and it looks incredible, you put it on black MOP and again looks awesome, positive display is good only for legibility not for looks, thats my opinion. Cheers.

Would the A158 glass fit the A1000? As it seems to be similar in size and proportion. Maybe the corners are a bit sharper on the 1000, but generally it could be a cheaper option with a spare bracelet 😀

You know you can flip the negative screen. On the LCD display. There is like a polarised bit it of film. If up flip it over it should go back to clear LCD display and not the black display

Yes. A1000 and A700 have same modul. So it wil be cheaper to swap them than to get 2 A1000

@@frankschroth4038 It's a condenser that is adjusting oscilator frequency very slightly. Condenser is "adjustable" with flat and tiny screwdriver. With this you can fix quartz watches that are inaccurate (in some range).

You can turn a negative display into a positive one by changing the polarizing film orientation. The most common modification is the other way around but you can find many tutorials on line on how to do this. Maybe you can practice first on a 10 dollar watch before you risk the more expensive one. Or you can buy a cheaper watch with the same module as a donor watch.

This watch in my opinion is a big fail for me. If Casio was developing a $100 watch then sthey should've put in a new module instead of a cheap F-series module. In real life conditions I use a countdown timer and this watch doesn't have that. There is one thing I like though is the new direction Casio is going in with the quick release mechanism on the strap.

You know, we all know they are quite not there... Style is the name of the game, but you buy a digital classic CASIO for functions, functions you don't get elsewhere, and, in this case to be presentable in formal or ceremonial appointments. The main distinction between regular elegant digital classic watch and stupid analog watches, is just that. Analog watches are dumb and unreadable, they are a proforma watch. This should be smart and serviceable while understating a fresh sober elegance while dressing formal. On A1000 they should have mounted the W202 clock module (with countdown) and perhaps integrate 5 alarms with the new lights. A do it all what matters classic restomodded Casio... that remember Mike Oldfield playing Punkadiddle adding some new useful features... but... they don't build it, it's definitely a shame. So I actually don't spend 100€ for a premium not preminum casio with the same functions of a cheap F91/A158... only to get metal and light. I go for an A700, at least it gains some serious comfortable features over tradition at affordable reasonable price.
