Personally, when I use a stopwatch, it’s for something *useful* to know, but when I use a countdown timer, it’s for something I *need* to know. It’s the difference between “how long did I exercise” versus “when will my dinner catch fire in the oven.”

Check out the A168W-1 or A158wEA . Those models are very similar and usually go for around 20 USD. I actually prefer both of those models to what is in the video.

Hi Jody! As a Casio lover, I have to say this one is very nice, no frills, minimalistic, and metal :) Also, I'm a woman and I never liked watches that people consider feminine, and so my dream is of a future when all watches would decrease in size, or at least will have 2 sizes to choose from. Instead of having "women" and "men" watches differing in aesthetics, I'd rather have the same watches for big wrists and for small wrists, differing only in size!

Very good comment Lara. My wife is of the same opinion! I have an 8.1" wrist so I tend to go for bigger watches but I do have a few smaller ones and she wears them more than I do. She has a small 5.2" wrist so men's 36mm up to 40mm if they have short lug to lug lengths look very good on a slim wrist.

I hate the idea of gendering a watch. I am a man. My favorite color is pink. I went to bucherer's and checked out the Patek Philippe watches. The only one I wanted to try was a "ladies" watch, it had a rose gold case totally studded with diamonds, though it didnt look gaudy.....Anyway, the saleswoman made sure to ask me "are you sure?" more than once. As for the casios jody talked about, I really want the pink colored rose gold version. But it's 160 USD and I just got the 5600PG, so I'll need to wait 6 months or so and see if I'm still thinking about the pink colored rose gold version.

I bought the a1000ma-7d. Put it on a polished oyster bracelet. The pearl front isn't really noticeable. The steel case & bracelet give it heft. It's a keeper. It also has a leather strap on deployment clasp for a dressed up look.

These are great for guys with slimmer wrists . I got the white mop dial for Christmas and love it . Great for in winter when wearing long sleeves at work because it fits easily under the shirt sleeve, looks quite dressy for a digital watch and the mop is quite subtle but looks awesome in direct sunlight. For sure , they might not be the first pic for boxers and rugby players , but for regular office working type guys in the city these are super fun and functional watches.

I'm conflicted, I appreciate the case/strap/crystal material upgrades can't be free but even the cheapest one of the bunch is a chunk more than I'd be happy to pay given the module inside is still their BOGO, basic one that you'd find in a ~£/$/€10 Casio. Mostly though (as you noted) for what they're asking sapphire should be on offer, Casio have managed it elsewhere on edifice and other models around the same price point. If we're wishlisting budget Casio's for a similar materials upgrade mine would be the W-214 it's round, intended to ape a 6900 G-Shock but has a really useful quick timer feature on the module and a big old light button on the front, a blinged up version of that would be great (IMO of course)...

The A1000s that they did in collaboration with Rag & Bone have sapphire crystals. There’s a black one and a gunmetal gray one. Model numbers are A1000RCB-1 and A1000RCG-8B respectively. And the bracelets look much nicer. Retail is US$250 though. Ouch!

You mentioned this treatment for the ae1200 and I can't agree more. Out of the casio variety that makes up my watch collection, I wear the ae1200 most. I just love ot. That being said, I thought it would be cool to do themed paint jobs on them, so I have made some mock ups on the pc. I was hoping to see what Casio would say, but unfortunately they denied seeing them outright. I don't even want any kind of compensation, I just want to be able to buy these commercially.

For this price saphire glass and a 7 or 10 year battery or solar power (where possible) would be nice. I would like high accuracy quartz versions especially. And how good are the buttons? They seem a bit fragile and not always easy to push. Will they stand the test of time?

I totally agree that the water resistance should increase, and the price should massively decrease. Imho a sapphire crystal is not that crucial since you can get a screen protector and keep the cost down. Screen protectors are a great addition to any non sapphire crystal, I have one on my MRW 200 and I'm very satisfied.

Hi Jody, I have the gold version of this watch and it's lovely. I have fitted it with a brown lizard skin leather strap which I cut down from 24mm to 18mm with a scalpel so that it integrates nicely with the case. I have big wrists - about 7.75" and even though the Casio is small it looks good ( if like me you are happy to wear small watches). It's a pretty little dress watch for me that I don't have to worry about too much and it gets a lot of compliments. I really hope they do a metal case for the W217h, and maybe some strap options too. Love the channel 👍

A few months back I gave in and bought the all silver model on sale. It's really nice but I wish they would embrace the vintage 80s styling a bit more and offer a black dial with all the colourful text. They do offer the A1000 with sapphire by the way but only on two more rugged looking (and expensive) versions made in cooperation with rag & bone.

I have the stainless finishes in both positive and negative display versions. They both look great and the MOP is very subtle but looks quite good. These are super slim and well finished with a decent back light. The displays are not as good as some other modern Casio digitals though, especially the negative one, definitely old school as the best viewing angle is quite narrow by todays standards. Maybe that's part of the charm of a new 'old' watch. Anyway I'm happy with mine. Prices were pretty good when I got mine but they have fluctuate significantly over the last year or maybe two.

Note - I have one of these, with the negative display. Very goodlooking watch...but very poor visibility at some angles. You can see that in some of the shots in the video. You can always press the light button on the watch of course, but I kind of lost interest in the watch because of the poor visibility.

Interesting you mention the crystal, I completely agree, it's a lot of cash for an easy scratched watch. My own particular bete noir with Casio is their MRW-200H. I absolutely adore this watch, it was my daily driver for years, an actual real "beater" watch (not that I don't take care of all my watches anyway) but please Casio at the very least fit with a mineral crystal. Yes I know I could just use Polywatch every now and again but it's such a perfect watch in many ways, perfect size (IMHO), feather light (I like light watches), day and date display and very robust.

I recently bought 3 versions of the A1000 - stainless, stainless with the inverted display, and the gold one. The all stainless one is on a link bracelet and the other two are the mesh bracelets. I love the watches but I've decided I don't like the mesh bracelets, because the ends are too loose in the spring bars. This allows the case to move around too much, so the watch looks crooked on my wrist. I'm going to replace those two bracelets. Personally, I really like the mother of pearl and don't have any reservations wearing it...

I wonder if Casio will bring back the DW1000 200m WR with stainless steel case, that first came out a couple of years before the GShock came on the market back in 1983. I still have the original case, minus the module that died a couple of months ago. I still have the original receipt when I purchased the DW1000 in the Philippines back in 1985. It cost me ₱795. Converting that currency back to Aussie $, the watch cost me $54...thereabouts. It seems that the word vintage is now becoming the flavour of the month word. Anything up for sale that's "old", it's must be considered rare, and thus must attract a premium price. Just look through Ebay, with many so called rare watches with a asking price in the tens of dollars, if not in the hundreds. If a watch is that rare, why use Ebay, when going through an auction house may produced a better selling price. Because the auction house takes its share of the sold price.

Sweet little watches! I have the A700 and it is the king to me. I like the style and layout better than the A1000. Best watch under 75 dollars in the world in my opinion. Right there with the 5600.

I was seriously considering getting one as a Christmas present for myself last year. They all look great, but the black and the darker rose gold models would be my picks. The only upgrade I'd make is a solar movement. Otherwise, I'm glad to see Casio offer a premium version of their basic digital watches!

Haha couldn't agree more about the sapphire. From Casio you get sapphire on the Oceanus line and even on some affordable Edifice watches, but when it comes to digital watches you only find these on special editions for a grand or even more. If these had sapphire, I'd get one of these geek-chic watches in less than a blink of an eye! 😆

I like black... it has an 80`s air that, to be perfect, should have more marked gold accents, like the seikos quartzs of the 80`s... it would be more perfect the gold with the screen and the face in black!!!! The Rag and Bone special edition of this model has sapphire crystal but also a ridiculous price around 250 euros. All we ask to Casio is to put the B-640 module on a steel case with the classic look and colors. Is that too much?

Ah, the high price of nostalgia...too high for this one unfortunately. It is a very nice looking watch, but for that money, a better backlight, sapphire crystal (and even real gold) would justify the asking price! You can find very similar looking ones for under $40 that are also all metal and have better backlights. As always, great review Jody! Keep them coming!
