Extra loving comment 🥰 Although you are a fall, I do believe, Madeleine, from what I can see on this mac screen, that you would look absolutely radiant in this pretty shade of rose-mauve. Now, I do apologize if I have made parting from this garment slighly more difficult 😚😋

Honestly, I fell in love with Melanie. Real artist and her smocking is an eye-opening technique. Very inspiring. And I just remembered that my aunt, who made three dresses for me when I was going to kindergarten at the age of six, used this exact technique to beautify them. Poland, 83, there are no nice things in stores, but now that I think about it, it was the last time I had real haute couture dresses 😅

What a marvellous episode!! The smocking technique is a true game changer for a very timid knitter like myself. I’m a crocheter through and through, but I do know the basics of knitting. I don’t bother knitting though, because I get so bored or frustrated. Whereas crochet holds my attention and because I know it so well, I can problem solve and customise on the fly. Using the smocking technique gives me options to knit basic patterns but embellish and fit them much more easily!

Lovely episode! I still have a smocked party dress my aunt made for me in the early 90s in my wardrobe. It obviously doesn't fit me anymore but there is so much effort and detail that I am keeping it for future generations. I just finished knitting a sock using a smocking stitch as well. It looks quite complex but was surprisingly easy to do once I got into it.

I can say that learning knitting garments was easier because I already knew how to sew and knit socks. I don't mean beginner sewing. I sew stretchy fabric. I was not shy about cutting into my first sweater to fix something, and then I grafted it back together. My 2nd knitwear is a knit flat in peices. I cast it on the same time as the other one, but it's taken longer because ... cotton. I gained weight while working on it. No big deal. I'll knit some godet panels and assemble it to add some more ease. Cotton is unforgiving. If I lose weight later, I'll take it in. Maybe with smocking since I think I'll be wishing the cotton was more elastic. Or I could cut out the godot and reset it together. I have used crochet to lengthen my daughter's shorts if she grew taller but not thicker. I prefer knitting, but I can crochet small items. Anything big doesn't hold my attention.

Andrea, I think anything you would do for class on the Pura Vida trip would be great. I personally would love to see how to weave in the ends for a Marie Wallin design or one like it. I love all her designs but would love to convert them from top down or make them all in the round. I lack the confidence to do it. Perhaps you could do something that incorporates some of those aspects.

Fabulous episode. As a prolific stitcher, who loves the rhythm of simple knitting (and with limited knitting skills), the addition of smocking opens up so many possibilities to enhance the design. I wonder how the stitching is started. With a knot or most likely I think a tail to be woven in?

Great episode. Yes, I can tell a sewer who also knits and crochets. I am also one of them. Sewers do apply the skill to their knit designs. I did like the pearls with the smocking - with the right yarn, and design, it makes a design look so elegant.
