Wonderful, Scott! This is once again a video teaching us the organized way of making the post processing of our photos. I like the structured and clear side of your teaching.

Thanks for this. The only thing that I wish, is that I had seen your masking and blending mini series two years ago- it would have saved me so much time! It’s a brilliant set of videos 👍

Scott, this is outstanding series. It not only covers the technical capabilities and priorities of masking; but, I also feel that you opened up artistic possibilities that I had not thought about. Thanks once again for your time and effort. BTW I second Martin's request of a playlist for this series.

Thanks Stephen. And yes, there is already a playlist on my YT channel. kzbin.info/aero/PLTShOn29ZxjOnsCmAkYkq1CBX_qwyto8a

Hi Scott, this is a long time after your original post but I think that confirms the long term value of everything you produce. I keep flitting between ON1 and Lightroom, preferring some features in LR but a lot more in ON1. However, the one that's been frustrating me most is that I couldn't see an ON1 equivalent of LR's Intersect mask. I've tried this several time in ON1, selecting the area I wanted to apply an effect or filter to, then trying to narrow it down to a specific colour range within that area. After watching this video of yours the penny finally dropped and I realised that all I was doing wrong was applying the masks in the wrong order. It's a shame ON1 isn't as flexible as LR (e.g. being able to select a colour range within a Sky Swap) but your video has removed 90% of my concerns here. Thank You !

Glad this helped you. Yes, order matters for intersection-like masking with ON1.

Hey Scott, do you have a playlist for this series? Maybe I missed it, but if you don't, would you please create one? I want to make sure and watch them as a "set"! Again, great series, thanks!

I get the basics, but it's still a little hard for me to wrap my old brain around. If you have any more examples or tips to help an old guy, I would love to have them. Thanks for all you do.

Very nice video. It took me a few months to realize those subtleties. Your video would have save me tons of time lol. One more topic worth covering is piling up multiple radial/gradient in one mask. If done wrong, it does intersect rather than additive. Took me a while to figure that one up too. Thank you so much for sharing.
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Hi Frédéric ... usually KZbin catches up in about a day and adds English subtitles to my videos :) And you are absolutely right about the multi-masking bug usage. I talked about that in the video on the Masking Bug shapes ... I tend to stick to a single gradient (maybe a second radial at best) and use other tools from there.

Another nice video, Scott. These are helping me quite a bit in coming up to speed on ON1. From what I’ve seen this means I’m unable to combine color range and luminosity masks? 😢
@ScottDavenport Жыл бұрын
Happy to hear the videos are helping. And yes, you cannot combine or intersect luminosity and color range masks. You can kinda sorta do it with luminosity mask and the use blending options to limit an effect to certain color tones.

Excellent video, learnt why my masking attempts were not working very well One area of ON1 where I still struggle with is reversing mistakes, or last action. Does not always work with a single key for me, especially with filters. Some people recommend using snapshots but I would like to know is there a single way to reverse your last step what ever it was. Filter, mask or anything one has done?
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Most of the time, Undo works. You could also check the history and select a prior step to move back.

My history tab is thanking you Scott! I actually made myself a quick note that's stuck to my monitor. Do these Stage 1 masks clobber masks in any additional layers or just the layer I'm working in? I have a habit of refining a mask in my first layer and then copying that mask and pasting it in additional layers and just inverting it for what I'm working on. After viewing this I'm thinking it's not such a good practice. Appreciate your knowledge.
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
The "clobber" is only per-mask. You can copy/paste/invert among different Effects filters or different layers no problem. It's only if you were to, say, return to a layer with a mask and use the Quick Mask AI (or lumen, or color) that results in the pre-existing mask being overwritten.
