Just purchased ON1 Photo RAW, and this video (and others in the masking series) really helped me to get a grasp on using the Gradient Masking tool. I kept getting confused on which portion of the photo I was applying adjustments to, but your section at the end where you adjust the foreground really helped to show that. Well done. This entire series on masking will be so helpful to my learning. Thanks for putting these together.

Hello Scott, thank you for all the tutorials of the masking series. For me, the key learning point of this video was clicking and dragging to rotate the gradient in a smooth fashion. Your tutorials are clear and concise. Cheers!

NEO has been the news cycle due to all the updates and I have been spending entirely too much time in same. Getting back to the best replacement for LR "On1 Photo". Will watch and practice the series on gradient masking bug. Thanks for your due diligence on these fine tutorials.

More teaching done. I did not know you could click, drag and move the gradient down from the circle. I have always used the circle, but now I won't. Thumbs up sir.

Is there a quick way to bring the mask back to level, like holding down the shift key?
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
There is! And I forgot to mention that - thank you for asking that question. While rotating, press and hold the Shift key down and the gradient will snap to the nearest 45-degree angle.

Hi Scott, one question regarding the gradient. Is there a way to use more than one gradient in a mask like you can do in Lightroom? I can add a second gradient, but I cannot add anything to the mask with that second gradient. It will only modify the first gradient. Am I missing something?

You can use multiple gradient bugs by using the "Add" button in the masking toolbar. For example, two linear gradients to affect the upper left and upper right corners. Though, there are limits as one gradient will tend to over-write the other. You can try a reflected gradient which can be a better choice in certain cases.
