What a great video, thanks for taking us with you and all the info 🥰 Just a little cushion tip, if buying the inners seperately from the covers always size up with the inners then you get a real filled out cushion that won't go flat quickly x

Luke, you could always saw one of those tables in half if it was a bit too wide and then fix the back edge to the wall. Then you could sell the second half or give it to a friend to use in their hallway.
@Shining-Star-17 сағат бұрын
You don’t do that to Antiques it’s not MDF from B&Q ! 😂

Luke ive done upholstery before I think u should of tucked it under the cushion then stapled it gives a better edge to it but on saying that you did a good job of it another good vlog im with one of the other comments about cutting a table in half as dine think you'll find a table that thin might have to customise it as your hallway quite narrow x

I have a “Thing” for Mirror’s. I was in my local charity shop when a Rolls Royce parked up. In walked an elderly couple with ornate lights and a stunning dressing Mirror. They informed myself and my daughter that the Mirror was from the Napoleonic era. I nabbed it there and then for £10.00! Gold Leafed, and the back of it tells its own age. I never hung it but I keep it in my bedroom in a corner next to my bedside unit. 👍👍👍👍💖

A thick curtain across the front door would also help with drafts. You can get a door curtain rod that opens with the door or install a curtain pole from wall to wall.

You'll find that table! During the Victorian era (perhaps earlier?), half tables were very often used to take up less space and still be useful. They would line the walls of their most elegant rooms. Perhaps your new friends at Honeysuckle and Rose will have some contacts for you! I looked them up and joined their sites. Lizzie seems wonderful and certainly has an eye for beautiful things. As you shop around, get to know your vendors! Ask questions and learn more and more about antiques as you take your journey to that perfect table! Tell folks what your looking for, and ask them to ask around to their circles. That is how I've gotten most of my antiques. And, that has helped me build relationships and know I am paying the right price! Excellent job upholstering your first piece! Only advice about light fabrics is to add a layer of thick soft quilting batting or some kind of thick muslim or the like. That way, if the foam is dirty or has stains, they will not bleed through. Loved the antiques fair!

Luke, keep an eye out for local auction houses, that's where dealers at antique fairs buy much of their stock. Maybe look for ones outside of London - we go to a local one near Winchester in Hampshire (Andrew Smith) - you can pick up some real bargains. Just make sure you read the auction house's charges before you bid (in person or online!). Mostly, you can listen live on auction day, too. Really interesting!

Another fun adventure, Luke! I would have had to stop and see how much that surveyors' tripod was though and maybe wire it up as a lamp.. Also, you've had enough tradespeople at your house - I'm sure you could get one to cut a table down depthwise and then mount it over your radiator with a French cleat. If I didn't live on the other side of the pond, I'd put one on the table saw for ya. ;) Love and hugs from the US, L

Hi Luke. Loved the antique browse. Unfortunately, I feel your pain with shopping for old pieces of furniture. Like you, I know what I want but it can take forever to find the right thing. Also, going to these sorts of sales are expensive with travel and entrance fee. I have ended up buying on Marketplace and painting/ changing up handles/ decoupaging and reupholstering to get what I want. Suggestion. Buy an electric staple gun. I had one of the hand ones and they are just not powerful enough. I bought a bog standard electric staple gun for about £40 about 2 years ago. I’ve used it for panelling, stapling trellis to fence panels outside, making picture frames and upholstering. It’s one of my favourite tools. Upholstery! The hours I have spent taking out staples. I upholstered a tub chair and decided to count how many staples I took out. 5,681! It took me nearly 9 hours in total and my hands were a mess. I find a fine chisel and a small hammer are the best for getting those critters out.
