For years I wanted to shave my head but my mom always said I couldn’t. About 3 years ago I dyed my hair bright blue. I used manic panic which has a reputation for fading really fast but three months later it was still blue. I decided to get rid of the blue. I did vitamin c treatments, 5 bleach baths and 3 full on bleaches. All that happened after all that was that my hair was a vaguely puke green and was completely fried beyond anything I had ever done to my hair before hand. After finally doing all that and ruining my hair, my mom asked if I wanted to shave my head. And that’s how I convinced my mom to let me shave my head lol

Libby Shearer I used 40 volume developer which is the highest you can get, at least non-professionally. The toner wouldn’t have done much considering blue isn’t a naturally occurring color in hair. It could have turned it silver which would have been somewhat easier to work with, but not much.

FYI for anyone who is DIY-ing their hair... As a professional I would rather you go to a salon but we all know that's not always what will happen. So, I like to be helpful, not a dick. I keep the vitamin C treatment WAYYY in my back pocket as a professional-- I have MANY other tricks besides lightener and this, but it does work in a pinch and here are some tips: -Use a glass or a rolling pin to crush the tablets. The finer the powder, the better. -Use CLARIFYING shampoo. Like head n shoulders. The cheap kind from dollar stores honestly works best. You need to "clean" the color out of the hair, use a clarifying shampoo. - It WILL dry TF out of your hair. Keep a clay hair mask or a protein based conditioner on hand for afterwards. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY... IF YOU APPLY THIS ON THE SCALP DO NOT FOLLOW IT UP WITH A LIGHTENER (bleach) APPLICATION ON THE SCALP. You will want to die. It will burn like hellfire. DON'T DO IT. Lol. Not even Sweet 'N Low will save you.

hey jenna, toners are used to get the amount of "warmth" (aka brassiness, orange, red, yellow) out of your hair after bleaching it. that's why it wasn't doing anything to your ends, bc they're already a "cool" color. also, ya gotta mix developer (level 10, NO higher) with your toner for it to activate. (level 10 developer is just to activate a color, level 20, 30 and 40 are for 'lifting') a toner can't lift, it's just a depository agent. whew. that's a lot of color talk. I hope that helped! (I went to cosmetology school and was a stylist and colorist for 3 years, I gotcha gurrrrl)

In case anyone has this same issue with getting blue out, I bought a shampoo at Sally's with red deposit in it (for redheads) and it cancelled out my blue. You can make your own by adding red dye to your shampoo. It's just like purple shampoo cancelling out brassy tones!

It’s called a Protein Treatment and it’s incredible. It deposits the color proteins lost via developer back into the hair cuticle so it also helps repair the hair a bit

Tip for anyone who wants to go from faded green to ashy silver - don't use toners, use pink (technically red is the complimentary color but it's too strong I suggest pink) semi perm hair dye mixed with conditioner because it cancels out the green and makes grey this way you treat your hair instead of damaging it and get a fresh color that's more neutral

the shampoo vitamin c stuff actually works if you use like dandruff shampoo with it. i always used head and shoulders and cover it and add some heat. but to be honest with you... blue is the HARDEST to get out. pink and purple come out extremely easy with this method. blue usually turns a weird swamp green color.

YUP blue is gorgeous but omg it is THE hardest to remove. Purple is 2nd. I've tried it all. Coconut oil before bed then bleaching to reduce damage and OLAPLEX Jenna, get your shit together and watch some Guy tang gurl or better yet I'm sure he could hook you up omg you should do that @guytang

lmao blue NEVER comes out ! you have to bleach it. but since she wanted it steel grey she couldve done one bleach wash to lighten it a smidge and then toned it with wella 050. that’s what ive done in the past with a v similar color & it turned steel grey. also, good purple dye covers basically everything

Ash any “unnatural” colored hair dye (blue, purple, pink, etc) whether it’s semi permanent or permanent won’t take to unbleached/unlightened hair unless your hair is already a light color like if your natural hair color was blonde or if it was dyed a light color like her faded light blue. in order for jenna or someone with dark hair to dye their whole head an “unnatural” color they would have to bleach it first. however, someone with darker hair could dye their hair a “normal” color without bleaching it first if the color they’re dying is darker than the hair color they already have regardless of if the dye is semi permanent or permanent. so jenna could easily dye her whole head like black or dark brown without bleach. Semi permanent (or demi permanent) and permanent hair dyes don’t take to the hair any differently, it’s the colors that take differently. the only difference between them is that semi/demi fades as you wash it and permanent doesn’t.
