The guy at the suiting store in Toronto is great. I've chatted with him in the past. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Toronto fabric stores will often do cuts in both metres and yards but will pick one or the other for pricing. You get used to conversions. We lost a bead/button shop after the pandemic due to the construction you see at the corner of Spadina and Queen. New subway line going in.

Toronto was very interesting indeed! I didn’t know they also did metres there too

Brick and mortar fabric stores are getting harder and harder to find here in Canada. My go-to store has been open since 1961 and is closing their physical store this year. It’s really sad to see. And as someone that does majority garment sewing, finding those fabrics locally is almost impossible. It’s made a once cheaper option (buy the fabric and make my own clothing) to now being a luxury cost. It’s cheaper to buy the piece already made. I’ve taken to thrifting most of my fabric (bedsheets, table cloths, etc) to make it more affordable. 🤷🏻♀️

It’s a sad state of affairs isn’t it? Fast fashion has made making clothes a luxury.

''Fabric is only as good as the person weilding it'' YES 👏 I fully support the fabric Pros and Cons forced you to buy, it's way to lovely 😆💖 Fabricville is somewhat acceptable but only if you have the membership card, it's way to expensive without (I prefer Club Tissu or go on Saint-Hubert street which has multiple stores in a row) As a Montrealer, I am SO JEALOUS of the Toronto stores 😭 The prices and selection are soooo much better (although they sell by the yard -_-) The silks you got look delicious. And the cannabis stores there are just a plague imo, there are WAY to many. I'm also super sad about physical stores closing more and more, we also lost many in montreal in the last decade or so and I'm sad most places closed before I learned sewing, or while I was a wee beginner cosplayer that was too shy to shop out of big brand chains. Too many shops online don't even offer samples, which I find is a huge issue and keeps me from wanting to buy from them, and even with a samples, it's hard to really get a good feel of the drape if it's something that important for a particular project. I'm someone that needs to touch all the fabrics and swoosh it around

Forgot to say I think it's so cool Terry has an eye for design! It seems so fun and useful to have a partner with that skill 😍

Yes! Terry has a very good eye for detail ^_^ Toronto was both sad and good what was still there. Some good deals still to be made

Probably 30 years ago I went to the the fabric district in Toronto for the first time, and was just overwhelmed. There were so many stores and every kind of fabric imaginable. Two stores still stand out in my memory, one looked like the roof was opened up and bolts of fabric just dropped inside, the other was the button store. It's sad that so many have closed. It sounds like you had an amazing trip.

You 100% should hit SR Harris in Minneapolis. 2 locations. Imagine a Super Wal-Mart but just every single type of fabric you could ever imagine at at least 50% off. I'm talking 100% Michael Kors wool for $10 a yard. Lace, netting, silk, wool, cotton, buttons, trims, leather, anything!!!

Philadelphia has a historic garment/sewing district called Fabric Row! It's definitely declined in the last couple decades but still worth a visit imo :) (although I'm from Philly, so I'm very biased!)

I loved fabric row in Philly 4th street. When I lived in South Jersey it was my happy place. There also was a store called Jomar they had discount clothing on the bottom floor and the second floor was mill ends from designer work rooms Boy did I get some deals there.I would buy the whole bolt cause it was so reasonable.Unfortunatly last time I was in Philly the place had gone out of business😢

There’s a ton of consignment shops and mom n’ pops in New England. Specifically, Mass and Rhode Island. There’s one in particular near me, she gets a lot of estate stuff so she has a bunch of vintage and dead stock fabric.
