Part 1 of a 3-part verse-by-verse study of Alma 30-31, which recounts the story of Korihor and Alma's mission to the Zoramites. Part 1 covers Korihor's side of Alma 30 and examines the tactics of an anti-Christ: to blame and belittle, to question beliefs and excuse behaviors. Join Jared Halverson for your weekly Come Follow Me study of the Book of Mormon!

The Spirit of contention always breeds fear and doubt...away from Christ. This has always been a great weapon against the Lord....Thank you brother Jared for your brilliant lesson of this here😇

I know I'm three years after the video, but yesterday I was praying and I had an extraordinary spiritual experience. Satan tried to get me to think that it was just thoughts and feelings but deep down I knew that the love and mercy I felt from the Father was real. I found your explination on how the Holy Ghost isn't self induced was so helpful. I wished that experience could never end, but if it did never end I would never have any challenges because Satan was completely cast out of me, for at least in that moment. I'm really looking forward to when you revisit the Alma chapters.

Excellent!!!! Again!! Thank you so much. I’ve read the BOM many times, but never like this year... in the past all the issues raised were something that happened ‘elsewhere’, or to ‘someone else’ or ‘in the future’ - basically outside my bubble 🙄. But this year, it’s different!!! I feel like I’m reading an instruction manual for what’s happening in MY life, TODAY and all around me and my loved ones. How did we get here SO FAST??!!!! 🥺. What I have loved the most about your lesson today is how you have shined a very bright spotlight on how anti Christs operate - making it so much easier to see clearly their tactics. Again THANK YOU!!! For taking the time to do this!!! If ever you’re bored (🤦‍♀️😂) - I would LOVE to hear you teach Isaiah, Revelation, Daniel and Jeremiah!! - you know, in your spare time 😳🤔🤣💖

Great question. I've read it several times and talked one-on-one with many many people about it. But it usually takes hours and hours. Unfortunately, it's become quite an effective piece of polemic, but it's guilty of what I call the 3 S's that are common to almost all anti-religious rhetoric: sensationalism, superficiality, and selectivity. In dealing with it with people, I'm happy to get into the weeds of the specific issues it raises, but I prefer to approach those kinds of things from a "big picture" perspective--the discipline of history, the nature of God, faith and doubt, religiou epistemology, etc.

You said that times will be so bad that the elect might be deceived. Matthew said, "if it were possible even the elect will be deceived." That literally means it's not possible for the elect to be deceived. Because of His love, God has given us the key to becoming the elect, thus we become immune from the deception Satan would use to claim us his. Where is that key? Read the oath and covenant of the priesthood in D&C 84 noting especially the last phrase in verse 34. Thus, the elect CANNOT be deceived because God never leaves his children without an escape plan to escape the tyranny of Satan and his awful prison.
