Our favorite definition of condescension is God coming down to your story. One word that describes how Jesus meets us where we are, as we are. What do you learn about condescension from the angel in this part of the story? When has the Savior met you where you are? We’ll be talking about what we learn about inquiring of the Lord. Two churches. Two different books of scripture. But, most important, one Savior, and how that applies to our stories. This week in Come, Follow Me we will be studying 1 Nephi 11-15 in the Book of Mormon.
Here are the segments you can look forward to:
SEGMENT ONE:
WHAT LOVE LOOKS LIKE
SEGMENT TWO:
LOOK!
SEGMENT THREE:
ONCE UPON A TIME
SEGMENT FOUR:
I WILL BE MERCIFUL
SEGMENT FIVE:
THE TWO CHURCHES
SEGMENT SIX:
SURELY

Grace’s insight about the angel saying look is remarkable to me. If you want to see the condescension of God, just look. It’s around us. If you want to see the marvelous miracles of a divine creator, just look, the evidences are everywhere. And that is not only true for good and wonderful things. it is also true of the gross, and the inhumane. Our testimony will be fortified the things upon which we choose to look. Two sailboats on the same lake, blown by the same wind, will have two very different destinations depending on which direction they are pointed.

Our office has all decided to talk about Come Follow Me on Fridays. IT'S THE BEST! Our university student employees are amazing and teach, us who are more "mature", so much! After we have our discussion we put our Printout picture on the Mercies of the Lord Poster. We have all enjoyed getting your insights from the scriptures!! I'm pretty lucky to work in a place where we can do this.

As I have been reading this week scriptures, I have been feeling an excitement that I have not felt the many other times I’ve read the Book of Mormon. Now as watch and listen to you, I absolutely love Grace’s energy as she’s basically jumping up and down with enthusiasm, and I totally understand why. Thank you for all you are doing and teaching

Just listening to the birth of the saviour. On Christmas Eve I finished studying Revelation and when I took the Sacrament I was so aware that Jesus had left all that glory and wonderfulness to come to a smelly stable. After 53 years I finally felt what the condescension of God really means

I never knew this meaning of condescension. That really struck home to me. For Christ to come to us was a big deal, but to know what else he gave up besides coming here knowing he would die. That took it to a new level.

I love the encouragement to apply the tree of life to my life, the dark wilderness, the river, the mist, the iron rod, the building, the people, people who take us away, and the people who bring us back. The tree of life story is in the book of Mormon, Lehi’s dream. Here is my story, I’d love to hear yours. The dark wilderness that can lead me away from the tree of life is a family that used to be near and dear to us. Due to a divorce, the mist creeps in from the river to distract me with thoughts of fear, worries and anxieties, and sometimes actions from others. I am quickly reminded of the tender mercy sent from a loving, Heavenly Father to give me hope. I quickly change my thoughts as if I don’t, my thoughts may snowball and I may find myself drowning in the river. If I allow my pride to manifest, I may make it to the building that is across the river, the building represents my actions, actions to act from deep hurt that can quickly turn into a rage of anger I didn’t know existed in me. As I stand in the building, looking at the people progressing on the path, partaking of the delicious fruit. I am reminded of the love of God, I am reminded that the Savior Jesus Christ perfectly obeyed every law that was given, every thought, every action and every deed. He did perfectly, and yet, He was punished as if He broke every law as a terrorizing criminal. The Savior Jesus Christ did this for me, he did this for you. There is no ocean deep enough, He is unable to pull us out of the deep ocean when we call out to Him and return to Him, remembering his grace and mercy. As I have a desire to reach up to Him, He can pull me out of the river. I then am able to look for people who can encourage and bring me hope to my life. As I work through the mist and find the path to turn once again, and grab the iron rod and cling to it, wrapping my arms and my legs around the rod. Watching my thoughts I can get to the tree and partake of the delicious fruit myself, and continue to have faith that no matter what happens, He can bring me what I need in the very moment that I need it, courage , strength, peace, joy, and even laughter while working through the tough trials of life.

You two led me to see a great principle of faith that's always been there that I only noticed when you talked about the angel asking Nephi what he wanted. Once he answers, the angel asks if he believes in what he has asked for. Once Nephi confirms his faith in that thing, the miracle unfolds, giving Nephi all he had asked, and I believe much more than he ever thought he would receive. "And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall receive, behold it shall be given unto you". 3 Ne 18:20

45:11-we know it is referring to Columbus. See this quote by Ezra Taft Benson: That man, of course, was Christopher Columbus, who testified that he was inspired in what he did.... The explorer Christopher Columbus wrote: "Our Lord unlocked my mind, sent me upon the sea, and gave me fire for the deed. Those who heard of my enterprise called it foolish, mocked me, and laughed. But who can doubt but that the Holy Ghost inspired me. President Ezra Taft Benson, The Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, 577. Another resource is the Book of Mormon Student Manual for Institute, Chapter 4. Also, a great article on Christopher Columbus is found in the Ensign: Columbus and the Hand of God, De LaMar Jensen, Ensign, October 1992.

Another place the Church acknowledged that it is Christopher Columbus is the 2020 Come Follow Me manual: "Who was the man Nephi saw whom the Spirit “wrought upon” to go “forth upon the many waters”? Nephi saw that the Holy Ghost would inspire Christopher Columbus to make his famous voyage to the Americas. On March 14, 1493, Columbus wrote of this voyage: “These great and marvelous results are not to be attributed to any merit of mine … ; for that which the unaided intellect of man could not compass, the Spirit of God has granted to human exertions, for God is wont to hear the prayers of His servants who love His precepts even to the performance of apparent impossibilities” (The Annals of America [Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc., 1976], 1:5)." Come Follow Me, Book of Mormon, 2020, January 20-26, 1 Nephi 11-15.

15:53 We sometimes forget to think from Laman and Lemuel's perspective. They tried getting the plates in all legality and failed. Here goes Nephi who kills Laban and gets the plates by deceiving Zoram. I can see why they forgot the Lord because all they may see is that Nephi got the plates by "his own craftiness". No wonder that later they wanted to kill him because they may think that Nephi might try to kill them to get his way and rule over them.
@FlapJackNoceda
@FlapJackNoceda 6 ай бұрын
But, what’s really interesting is that Nephi had full right to slay him. In an earlier verse (I forget which one), it says that Laban basically kicked them out when they offered their valuables, and kept those valuables. In that time, stealing was punishable by death. Also, Nephi was commanded to kill Laban.

Imagine how Laman and Lemuel would feel if they had known and understood how their names and their story would be told and known by so many people in the latter days. I think they might have made some changes just for the sake of their reputation. Nobody wants to be the bad guy. Yet, if they had known and changed, it would have been for the sake of pride, not for the love of God.
