Re: Faith Crisis. 12:26 I want to share from 1969 or so. I was in the US Army, and recently had become active again at age 19. An announcement was made asking for a volunteer to work as a Chaplain's Assistant. I thought it might be interesting and volunteered. My Chaplains was a Southern Baptist Minister, around 50 years old, and a heart of gold. I told him I was a member of the Church during our first meeting. He said that was fine. My duties were simple, meeting people who came into the chapel, answering the phone, and doing a little cleaning. After I started this job, we had around 100 members of a Utah Nation Guard unit to train with my unit. They were from a linguist company, and almost all had learned a second language while serving a mission. It was incredible to have so many people who shared my faith and had wonderful stories to share. My chaplain had started leaving anti-Mormon pamphlets on my desk.I didn't know what to make of these pamphlets. A lot of the subjects I had never heard of. I started taking the pamphlets to my new 100 friends. I learned so much about the gospel. If one person didn't know how to answer or explain the pamphlet, somebody else could. Soon, I was looking forward to getting the pamphlets. I even asked the chaplain for others if he forgot to give me one. Each pamphlet became the source of wonderful discussions. What a blessing I got from the Lord; Gospel truths, companionship, and even the occasional cookies sent in a care package from a family in Utah. I learned what has been mentioned by you several times. It's OK to have questions about the Church,.Questions lead to answers or knowing that I may not get an answer right now, but eventually I will get the answer. Thanks for reading this to the end.

Oh Brother Hal, how do you do it? How do you hone in on messages we so need every lesson - and I know I'm not alone in this thought! Just before I started this lesson, I was bemoaning my weaknesses, as I perceive them; yes, bemoaning my humanity. And you come in with the perfect answer . As you delved into Ether 12:27, you spoke directly to me, and I'm sure, to many others, about the gift of our humanity - our weakness, the way God made us; finding beauty from our ashes. His grace is sufficient, even for me - thank you for this wonderful reminder!

Dear Brother Jared, maybe you don't feel like you can be inspiring in your teaching, but, sorry to say, you're wrong. The Spirit works through you in amazing ways. You just never know about it. Thank you so much, dear, beloved, brother Jared. You have expanded my understanding and provided background for the Spirit to open my eyes, ears, and heart to our beloved Savior. ....a priceless gift. Thank you.

I will forever be grateful for your faithfulness in teaching and persevering through the tough times because of your commitment to us! Through the sweat and I’m sure tears of your Phd, the puppies lol, the amazing long lessons that took so much sacrifice of your time away from family, well just all of it! And now your dads legacy lives on through you! You could have stopped a million times and more we don’t know about. But you DIDN’T! 🙏🏻 Being a convert back in my teens, I didn’t know how to really study and comprehend the beauties of the Word - until Come Follow Me. And then found you! 600+ hours - I think you said, spent with the Old and New Testament, have unlocked a breathtaking view (and of course the deep dives - no snorkeling here😉). I am beyond grateful and pray for you and your family often. And now, having the Gathering explained as you have, has given me an extra 🔥 to accelerate my work I was meant to do here on the earth!

@novawarren5089 I had an observation about Ether 12:7. "For it was by faith that Christ showed himself unto our fathers, after he had risen from the dead; and he showed not himself unto them until after they had faith in him". 3 Nephi 11:14-17 says the people actually didn't have faith until after they saw his wounds and felt the body of Jesus.

It wasn’t until I was teaching seminary in Las Vegas about 6 years ago that another teacher shared with me insight found in Ether 12:41. This was the first time I realized that grace comes from our Father God, from our Savior Jesus Christ, and from the Holy Ghost. We talk mostly about the grace of Christ, which is eternally crucial. However, we also benefit and can call upon the grace of all three members of the godhead…according to our needs, and in their time.

Listening at 1.5😅. Moroni must have felt for Ether so much.
@ayetek2000
@ayetek2000 Ай бұрын
I think because Moroni saw our day, and see all our advancement in technology, language, Chat GPT, sophisticated computer programming, AI, etc, he felt inadequate and thought their method of writing was not good enough compared to the vision he saw of us. For example, what was impossible 50 years ago now seems normal.

“Weakness” I take as being mortality itself. So He made us fallen, mortal, weak because we otherwise would be off the scale on our pridefulness and never be reachable. We have to be weak, fallen, mortal so that we can be touched with humility, and in humility we become reachable to God. Thank goodness for humility.

In Ether 1 we see how the Lord describes the Jaredites: “And there shall be none greater than the nation which I will raise up unto me of thy seed, upon all the face of the earth.” Such potential! It’s so sad that they ultimately destroyed themselves. They started out with plenty of faith! When you’re in a barge that’s tight like unto a dish you can’t see where the furious wind is taking you. You just have to trust that you’re going to the promised land. They didn’t even see the land from a distance. They didn’t know they were there until they washed up on shore. Even then, they had to have faith that it was in fact the promised land. There’s so much to learn from their story.
@jjhardy2000

It also strikes me that while faith is believing without seeing, the brother of Jared also teaches us that the end goal of faith is actually seeing. He couldn’t be kept out of the presence of the Lord because his faith was so great.

I’ve always thought, “If Moroni thinks HIS words (or their words) are awkward and not enough and I feel the Spirit reading them and they blow me away with their greatness…then how utterly fantastic is it going to be to attend a fireside of his/theirs 😵😱🤩?” It literally took me until I was an adult to realize that the Jaredite plates are 24 plates detailing everything and after reading them, Moroni looks at the (many more than 24) Nephite plates and is like, “Oh no 🫠.”..because I always wondered why Moroni was worried about his words and their words. I never thought that they were anything other than intensely wonderful and was always confused as to why he was concerned. I still feel great respect and love for him to struggle to give us those words and understand (a tad) why he might be concerned and I don’t condemn him (especially since his written words are great to me and I remain convinced that I will be utterly blown away by his verbal words in that fireside in the hereafter). 😁

Amazing as usual! I love the idea of Moroni realising his own weakness and dependence on God for the bringing forth of the Book of Mormon. My only question is whether Christ was exempt from the weakness of the human condition: "He shall go forth suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind" (Alma 7:11). Jesus clearly had no weaknesses, but was he subject to weakness? If not, how can he truly understand us?

As you taught, the design of the Jaredite barges came with built-in limitations, even though designed by God. The issue of breathable air was resolved by asking. The issue of light in the barges needed more attention; the Lord asked the brother of Jared what he would have Him do, and then he went to work. I'm convinced we are the same way. Some things God is just going to take care of for us, no questions asked (like the steering in the barges). Other weaknesses He will resolve when we ask Him. Still others, He will ask us to work it out together with Him, and He will make us strong.

Bro.Jared I enjoyed your commentary. In Ether 13 we read about the new Jerusalem in the Heartland..and for me I can just imagine brother Joseph translating the plates and reading this for the first time and being totally amazed on this information. And also with Ether saying that the new Jerusalem will be build here on this land. Where was Ether standing? He was standing where the new Jerusalem was going to be built, here in America, the heart of America. Why is Ether standing in the middle of America, where the new Jerusalem is going to be built if his people are all down in Mesoamerica along with the Nephites and the Lamanites? This has always Raise questions. In my mind please advise.

Do you think that people who worship books are equivalent to the idol worshipers mentioned in the Bible? Why do you think the Prophets in the Bible did not confine Gods’ words to a Bible?
