I was once taught two valuable things to help avoid pride: first, don’t compare yourself to others because you will either become prideful, or you will be disappointed. The second is a quote from ‘The Traveler’s Gift’: “I don’t compare myself to others, I only compare myself to my potential”. Thank you Bro Halverson for all you do.

Being an elementary music teacher for over 31 years and also a primary chorister and pianist, I can testify that the children of this world exhibit truth and the Savior’s love. I love being with them as they learn the gospel through songs and stories. I only wish we could all sit in primary and observe how to be humble and trusting. Being a 67 year old priesthood holder, I’d really rather be with children than adults!

Your journey researching through anti writings reminds me of reading about the issues CS Lewis experienced while writing “The Screwtape Letters”. We must steel ourselves against the traps of Satan and those who he uses to promote his plot against the plan of our Heavenly Father and the Savior.

I have truly enjoyed this Channel. When my studying leads me to scriptures that Bro Halverson has already posted, I love getting insight from those videos as well. In reference to Jared’s wish at 24:26, id like to give a Shout-out to Pastor Jeff with his KZbin channel #HelloSaints, combating criticism with curiosity. The world could use much more of this approach when faced with those who have some differing beliefs. Thank you, Brother Halverson, for your sacrifice and time in bringing deeper understanding to the scriptures.

i love listeng to you every week. I suggest you to others who are no longer of our faith, and to those who are finding our faith for the first time. Though I would like to say, that a lot of what you say of how the Gospel works, is not really reality for many of our faith. These things you talk of are your experience, there are many of us that share your experiences, but once thought that the church worked the way you say. But there are many, of us are not in a position in the church to receive fairness, or even be able to treated like a human being. I do like listening to the way it is suppose to be.

Thank you for explaining the celestial marriage. My son's father and I were married in the Los Angeles temple. Long after civil marriage. I divorced him when he refused to give up his gay lifestyle that he started after 22 years of marriage. And he was excommunicated. I was thinking I needed to ask for some way to be unsealed to him. But your explanation solved that for me.

@noskalborg723
@noskalborg723 Жыл бұрын
@@susieclose9464 i agree: keep the sealing and hold out hope. But only until you find someone who is not trampling their covenants as meaningless. If the first husband can truly repent after he has been wicked for so long that she has found and married another, then he can trul... hmmmm.... Actually no. A situation where it COULD be acceptable/necessary to unseal, would be the first husband being divorced and excommunicated, AND a new righteous husband is found. BUT, that is not a blanket situational approval, nor is it never necessary to be unsealed from one who has broken covenants so thoroughly... hmmm. Maybe not our place to judge.
@mrsbcoleman12
@mrsbcoleman12 Жыл бұрын
Being gay is not a lifestyle. It is not evil or sinful to simply be gay. Now as for choosing to break covenants & actually sin by breaking the law of chastity, that is different. Just want to clarify the difference. I can't imagine how heartbreaking it must be to have your spouse reveal their truth to you after so many years of marriage and I hope the Savior brings peace to your heart in that situation. But I also feel the need to clarify to anyone reading that the Church has told us the sin does not come in being gay. And we need to love and try to understand those who are LGBTQ. I also can't imagine how your husband must have felt living his whole life in a lie and the messages he received from those around him. We all need to be better & do better.

I’ve wondered if Peter’s question of forgiving 7 times was him trying to show the Lord he is learning the gospel, his understanding of completeness and perfectness, the meaning of the number 7, in forgiving others. But the Lord expanded Peter’s view to infinite completeness, infinite perfectness in forgiveness. Which is our Heavenly Father’s power to forgive.

While I really appreciate Brother Halverson's tangent and likening the "little ones" to may of those who are young in faith, I realized this morning during prayerful study of Matthew 18:1-6 that in full context, Jesus really wasn't talking about children at all. He's telling the apostles that they (as adults) must become meek and humble amongst their brethren and before Heavenly Father. I liken it to one that has mastered the way of "turning the other cheek"- it is THESE Little Ones who become mighty and strong should they finally be offended or persecuted. It's a little bit of a paradox, but you better believe that the Lord will VALIANTLY defend those ADULTS who become like children again (looking to their Father for all things). Those who will turn the other cheek to many small offenses and even some grievous ones, to the offenders and persecutors of THEM will the Lord eventually turn his wrath. This understanding is expounded upon perfectly in D&C 121:16-22 16 Cursed are all those that shall lift up the heel against mine anointed, saith the Lord, and cry they have sinned when they have not sinned before me, saith the Lord, but have done that which was meet in mine eyes, and which I commanded them. 17 But those who cry transgression do it because they are the servants of sin, and are the children of disobedience themselves. 18 And those who swear falsely against my servants, that they might bring them into bondage and death- 19 Wo unto them; because they have offended my little ones they shall be severed from the ordinances of mine house. 20 Their basket shall not be full, their houses and their barns shall perish, and they themselves shall be despised by those that flattered them. 21 They shall not have right to the priesthood, nor their posterity after them from generation to generation. 22 It had been better for them that a millstone had been hanged about their necks, and they drowned in the depth of the sea.

Thank you for this channel! It is very helpful and informative for me, and has increased my faith. I do have a question about a part in this week’s lesson when the Lord corrects his disciples for rebuking the individual doing acts in the name of the Lord. I liked what you taught that all followers of Christ should be united and welcoming to each other. I have longed been a strong believer of that. But my question is this: if the individual was offering either Priesthood ordinances or blessings without having the authority to do so, then wouldn’t the disciples be within reason to ask them to stop? My own thought is that the individual may have had the authority given at some point, and the disciples just didn’t know that, but of course the Lord did. Or, maybe the individual wasn’t engaging in Priesthood acts but was just simply teaching the doctrine of Christ. Would love to hear thoughts on this. Thank you for putting out this content and for all you are doing to teach us new insights.

I wonder if there’s something to that too.. that a number was even listed. That would indicate an end. But not necessarily for us to determine . But that we need that many and God will grant it with humility and a broken heart and a contrite spirit. But that with that much effort and turning back to God that he’s keeping track and is mindful of us and aware of us and constantly helping us but with that much effort and Learning and his grace … we don’t have to count (or worry unnecessarily.. not be cumbered) because eventually it will end. We will heal. We will learn. We will get there, will his help:) Maybe like the kid with the money story where at the end of this life we bring what we can and did our best and didn’t fail because we didn’t give up so grace steps in with healing where it was beyond us :)

I think he is referring to a concept in "Faith is not Blind" by Bruce Hafen. It talks about stages of faith going from a simple faith, to wrestling with a complex faith and then emerging with a wiser but simple faith. Its similar to the idea of progressing thru garden- fall- atonement that Bro Halverson talks about alot. I haven't read the book but its on my list.
