Emily, some words you said in this video are changing my life and I just wanted to thank you. "Our journey is not to be loved-- we already are. Our journey is to become." I just wanted to let you know that your work here is touching lives and changing minds and saving relationships. I am so grateful for you and David. Thank you for everything and I love you both forever!

Putting a penny (or a slip of paper) in a jar is much like what President Erying asked us to do in October 2007 - 'at the end of each day reflect on how you've seen God's hand (goodness) in your life or in the life of a loved one.' I have done this, albeit imperfectly since that time. It has been a game changer in my life. When I am feeling forgotten by Him, I pull my notebook out and read - I remember when he has been with me in the past, and it brings him closer when I need him in that moment. It's such a blessing to REMEMBER. Bless you both for all of the good you do.

Wow, I never understood or comprehended fully the meaning and beauty of the "penny parable", thank you for bringing that to light, how much it shows the goodness and loving nature of God, and that we could never "earn" His goodness, it is freely given when we turn to Him. Thank you 💜

Lightning bolt with the Penny Parable! All my church life I have heard others myself included murmur against those who have not fulfilled what they or I have thought was their responsibility or duty as a leader or a parent in their calling or a member in the church. What this parable showed me was that we are “paid” the same - we perform do to speak based on our capabilities or abilities and He knows those - thankfully and gratefully He knows those! We are blessed as parents as role models as examples as leaders to learn to increase our knowledge and to do the best we can to do what He ask of us and that is not always what our neighbor is capable of doing. As a result we may not always be the first asked but we will be rewarded just the same! Love this!

Dear Emily and David, I have just finished this weeks study with you amazing people. I had an experience last week that could of filled my penny jar. Yes one experience, because I am such a dog lover especially puppies. My son was given a pure bred black lab puppy from our friend for free! He was told that the puppy was good for shots until he was 6 month old and at this point he was about 3.5 to 4 months old. I encouraged my son to take the pup to our vet and just start him over in their puppy program to make sure he was covered completely. But, he had some trails in his marriage and those came over the puppy's health. I am so mad at myself for not taking the pup myself and doing what I told him to do. Anyway the pup came down with Parvo a ravage disease for dogs. About 3 days into it I was at their home taking care of the kids because both parents work and I try to help out when I can. That day I was leaving and I saw the pup suffering but also knew the vet had said it could go on for 2-3 more days and he would just bleed and withered away having seizures and other neurological complications. Before I left that day I prayed and asked Father in Heaven to take him quick and now so he didn't have to suffer any longer. I cried over and still do this beautiful loving puppy. As I drove the 30 minutes to my home the puppy had an eruption of loose bloody stool which is common for Parvo. So my son took him from the crate and washed him and held him at which point the pup passed into the Kingdom of God to run and play with all of our other dogs that I listed by name in my prayer that afternoon. I believe with all my heart that the Kingdom of God is filled with those pets we have loved and are now gone. Heavenly Father was especially good to that pup, myself and my son's family that day answering my prayer. I could of filled a quart, half gallon jar or a sparkles water bottle with pennies that day for my gratitude of my prayer being answered that afternoon within 30 min of the offering of it. Thank you both for the clarity of the scriptures you bring to us. Emily don't leave us:)

Yes! Yes! Yes, Emily! My mind always goes to those in the last hour are the forgotten, or those whose blessings haven’t come yet. I am one of those, so I can relate to the 6th and 11th hour laborers. It reminds me of Elder Hollands quote “Some blessings come soon, some come late. But for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come!” ❤❤

When you spoke about the young man coming to ask Jesus about how to obtain eternal life and pointed out how He first beheld him and loved him, I realized that Jesus first loves us, then shares His teachings, then invites. Loves, shares, invites. I bet that young man comes to change because he was first loved. ❤ Thank you!!

I love y’all’s comments and insights. Gives a whole new perspective on things. What I also learned from the “penny parable” was, when the master went out and saw more laborers sitting around, I wonder if he thought, if 5 are getting the job done, then more will help lessen the burden of those already working.. we may not even see the help others lend us along the way. Possibly, he kept adding workers, so it wouldn’t seem so daunting. So overwhelming, to those already toiling away. Not that that’s the reason for this parable, but could be another part of it.

The closer we get to the crucifixion, the more I had always read these chapters as being a bit more harsh. I would read it with a tone that made Jesus seem fed us with us thick-skulled mortals 😂 So I deeply appreciate these explanations that recognize the beauty and consistency of His ministry ❤

The Joseph Smith translation tells us that what Jesus said was: "With men that trust in riches, it is impossible"; Mark 10:24 - JST Mark 10:26. Jesus was telling them that having riches is not the issue, it is those that trust in riches that will have trouble getting into the kingdom.

I heartily agree with your comments regarding Laborers in the Vineyard, that just checking off commandments that we keep misses the point. We certainly do need to love God and find joy in serving Him. But there's so much to be said when we start out on the covenant path for working to just keep the commandments. It's usually AFTER we learn to keep them that we find that we have joy. Let's not minimize the milk we drink (keeping the commandments); they should lead us to a full life and joy. Too bad the ruiling Jews never made that leap, but it is a normal and necessary step for us.

Another good lesson. But, please consider putting a gap (5 or 6 seconds) between lessons so if we have to stop for some reason we don't cut you off mid-sentence. You both have a tendency to talk over each other, or run one thought into the next.

How do you balance “ask and ye shall receive” with “weary the Lord with your prayers” and “prayer is not a vending machine”? Is the only purpose than to “enter into the Lord’s happiness”? Are we not spiritually co-creating our day/lives with God? Is his purpose to bring us to him in obedience where he acts at his leisure? There is little solace when the “not yet” goes on for years, hope is diminished, and the heavens are brass.
@jacnjoe

Prayer is all about aligning our will with His will and trusting that His timing is what is best for us. And by best I mean what will help us become who are meant to be, not necessarily what will make us happy or content in the here and now. It’s like the principal of sacrifice vs instant gratification. If we just got everything we wanted all the time without any effort besides asking, we wouldn’t learn to have faith, to trust in His timing, to trust He knows what will help us the most in the long run, and there would be no point to being here. We need to learn to rely on our Savior because it’s only through Him we can be saved, and the best way to learn that unfortunately is through experiencing earthly trials that test our patience and that are so hard that we realize He is the only way to get through them. Like Emily said, “Our journey is to become (like our Savior).” And Sister Craig in conference said, “I am learning that Heavenly Father is more interested in my growth as a disciple of Jesus Christ than He is with my comfort.”
