I respect so much that you two just keep having kids. Says a lot about your character cause we also know you are great parents and really put in so much effort. You're helping build a better future and I'm sure you don't think you're better than other people, but you really seem to be cream of the crop, salt of the earth people.

I love the silence you are maintaining while milking. Nice quiet video..
@valeriecolvin6977Ай бұрын
We are now milking by hand and loving the quiet and peaceful twice-daily chore and the rhythm it gives to our days. I'd love to see what you use your milk for. What products do you make for your family, do you have a milk share/sell milk, or do you use it to supplement your animal feed? We have 13 children, so I'll pass on praise to God for growing families!

I love your channel. I started watching about 5 or 6 years ago with Ladybug and loved that cow. Still miss her beautiful face. But these girls are so adorable. Love cows❤❤❤. I know it may be boring but love cow videos. Not boring to me😂!! P.S. are you still sensitive to cow's milk. I gotta say...don't miss the camels. Lol.

I'm gonna try and go back and find it, cause I'm pretty sure you've addressed it before, but curious as to when and why you switch from hand milking to using a machine?

Oh! That’s so exiting Best of luck to you ( I find it handy having a reliable book on things like what to do if they get nicks at they’re feet or something minor you can do without the vet because when it happens you’ve got to act pretty fast ) Enjoy the ride!

So used to your narration, I almost expected you to be explaining what you were going and why you were doing it. That cow seems trained. Is there such a thing as a low-noise milking machine?
@HomesteadyshowАй бұрын
😂 I know right!? It’s soo loud! Our milking machine is loud, it’s also older, maybe newer equipment is quieter? Don’t know 😆

Is that a jersey?? Ours just had her calf 6 weeks ago and we feed her but she isn't quite that thick!!! Should she be???
@sheribristol2826Ай бұрын
They have mini jerseys. They are different in structure than a full size jersey. A full size jersey when fed a healthy diet always looks skinny. They have their ribs showing which is normal! If you are wondering about if your cow should have more or less weight in her talk to your feed person and they should be able to point you in the right direction for your animals.
@austinmartin6409Ай бұрын
Mini jerseys hold weight really well without any grain input. That’s one of my favorite things about them. So your standard or commercial jersey will look different. Our Guernsey was a lot harder to keep in good condition, so check with a local dairy mentor and they can tell you how your girl is looking. It’s hard to put weight on them if they get too think while they’re in milk.
@JIKING77Ай бұрын
Their cows are slightly overconditioned. With constant feed available some, cows just keep eating and put on extra weight. The only problem with the extra weight, is the potential for calving problems. Otherwise the contant feed certainly helps grow a nice calf, and produce milk.

I was so surprised to spot the hundred or so flies under the cow as it was being milked. Anything that can be done about that?
@HomesteadyshowАй бұрын
You can spray the flies, but the sprays don’t last long, and we don’t like spraying when they are milked (don’t want nasty stuff in the milk) We don’t like to use sticky traps in the barn, they catch too many swallows. And because they cows are in the field all day and night, the traps don’t do much good. Flies are just a part of farm life, don’t let it surprise you too much 😉
@joebean3615Ай бұрын
I find fly traps are better that fly spray You can hang sticky re-useable fly traps Or if you like diy you can look up ‘diy fly traps’ there are some good options
@DillRidgeАй бұрын
Your cows look really pregnant. Aren’t you supposed to dry them off for a while before they have another calf?
@HomesteadyshowАй бұрын
The only really pregnant cow is on the far right at 3:22. So she wasn’t being milked. (She’s since calved.) The cow we’re milking in this video isn’t due to calve until winter, and will be dried off before then, so she’ll have a long enough dry off period.
