Come Now is The Time to Worship
Words and Music by Brian Doerksen
Copyright ©1998 Vineyard Songs
This song has been my go-to musical call-to-worship for many years - such a clear invitation for believers to ready their hearts, minds and bodies for a time of corporate worship. I first heard it at the church plant I attended at the turn of the century as a university student, and was a memorable part of my introduction to contemporary worship music.
Last year I had the great privilege of partnering with Brian Doerksen on a virtual choir version of his song "The River" ( • The River (Virtual Cho... ). Prior to the premiere, we teamed up for a charity livestream event, during which Brian tells the story of how "Come Now is The Time to Worship" was written. Check out that story here: • Livestream with Brian ...
In this music video series my goal is to serve up my favourite worship songs as I might lead them with a congregation - just voice and piano.

And I quote, "One Day Every Kneel Will Bow Down To Worship ".This is the reality we struggle to understand in this generation. One day we shall face the judgement of the true God, sitting on his throne. Thanks for the song David and stay blessed bro.

David, don't allow the view counter to underestimate the impact you make with you ministry to the children of God. This was a great song to not be able to get out of my head over the Thanksgiving Day weekend, and it still is a go to for much needed encouragement. You have been a staple in my worship for the last 5 years. Thank you for every song that you put out.

Love it! Beautifully done! One of the things I like about the song itself, is that it can very easily be made "1st person." I come...now is my time to worship. I come...now is the time I give my heart. I come...just as I am, to worship. I come...just as I am, before you, God. I come... Etc. When I was the secretary, choir member, assistant choir leader, musician, sound person, and otherwise Girl Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hoquiam, WA, we would often do the song in its original state, as you've sung it here, and then swing over to the personalized version, which would usually proceed onward to communal worship in the Spirit, with the tune being played lightly in the background. It was one of our favorites, because it's so flexible and easily personalized that it allows one to slide over into "abstract" worship very easily and beautifully.

This has been one of my favorites from Brian Doerksen. I love your arrangement, too. Nice!!! Before I listened to the song, I went and re-watched the interview with Brian. At least a couple of times a month, I also go back and listen to "The River." I was involved in the music team in the Presbyterian church where I was the secretary for 10 years (the 90s), when much of Brian's music was very new. We grabbed up a lot of them for our "contemporary" part of our services. We didn't divide into two services, with a congregation of only about 150, but we did try to include a music mix of "old standards" and what then were new, and have NOW become the "old standards" for the next two gens up. ;-) My own children would think of this song, and others from its time, as one of those "old standards," while they were also raised on the hymns that are "old standards" for me, that, to them, are simply "ancient." Over the years, with my kids (and now my grandkids) I have enjoyed sitting down and combining the "really old" songs with the "not-so-new" and the "really new" ones, just for fun. One of the old Christmas songs we have always loved to combine (usually while riding as a family in a car, to some sort of a Christmas gathering) is "Away in a Manger." I love the tangled history of the two versions that I know (and there are evidently more), that is explained here ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Away_in_a_Manger#Variants ). In fact, my daughter and I intend to do an arrangement of the two melodies, during a nursing home presentation a small group of us will be doing in early December. Just a couple of hours ago, today (which has actually, 15 minutes ago, progressed to tomorrow--illustrating the point), I was listening to Josh Baldwin sing, "Oh, Lord, I Need You" (released in August 2022, I believe), which is a throwback to "I Need Thee, Every Hour," during "moments" of worship. So good! Right after that one, I went to Cody Carnes' October 2022 release of, "How Precious Is The Blood + The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power," done pretty much the same way. They both have used elements FROM the hymns of yesteryear, mixed into the musical parlance of today, meshed into a time of free, communal worship. What a blessing! This song, with your lovely arrangement, feels the same way to me. Thank you!
