I really respect irish people, I'm from Finland and we have similar troubles in the past, just different colonizers. Just opened up a bottle of Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey and started to listen old finnish patriotic songs that led me to irish patriotic songs.

The other side was the British army which had sent The Black and Tans to help the Irish police against the IRA

@@nathanfrost5439To be more concret it was the "fat boy" Winston Churchill who had the idea to use WW1-veterans as support for the RIC to Ireland, either as the "Black and Tans" or the "Auxillary Division"! Congratulations Winston for creating basicly a british equivalent to that what the Nazis later had, the SS!!!

In honor of around 5,000 fallen Irish warriors who fought side by side with the Serbs against the Bulgarians, near Dojran there is still a Celtic Cross on which it is written: "In memory of those from the Tenth Irish Division who gave their lives in the defense of Serbia". The 10th Irish division with 8,000 fighters stopped the entire Bulgarian army of 99,497 soldiers at the Serbian border for a few days. That's wonderful, but these were Irish who volunteered to fight in the British Army, and thousands of British died in Serbia as part of the Salonika Campaign too - as did so many of their comrades who fought or died in the same Flanders as mocked in the song. Touching sentiment but maybe a weird choice of video to place it...!

@@WjfhdhShshshsh What a simplistic and uninformed comment. Anglo-Irish can still be Irish, unless you're into 'racial purity' or ignore those who are mixed or identified that way. Not all loyalists are of British extraction (many ethnic Irish fought for Britain too), and not all Anglo-Irish were loyalists (they literally mention the great Parnell in the song!). And most loyalists are Ulster Scots, not Anglo. Amazing how so many Irish people think of the Scots as pure, supposedly all Celtic brethren when Scots did such disproportionate damage to Ireland and pretend it was only the English.

As an Englishman I would say, don't take the song to seriously as I think we are all aware of Behan's (D) sarcastic lyrics in his writing, jez he even takes the piss out of his own grandmother in the first verse of the song ffs. Frank was wrong of course as many of those Irish who joined to British Army in WW1 were gulled into doing so by people like Johnny Redmond with the promise of the reversal off the suspensory act at the end of the war, so they could never have been "loyalist by definition" lol. In any case Frank would of course be calling the likes of Michael Collins a "loyalist / traitor" also because he agreed to be faithful to the Crown when he also the singed away 20% of his country along with the other 63 traitors in the Dail, but were they really? And this from the pen of man who lived in Britain for most of his life and even marred a British girl. Notably of course the song has absolutley nothing to do with the real Black and Tans from the WOI as the song takes place in Russell Street in the Irish Free State era of the late 1920's.

@@emperorrdr Jez, dont tell lies, they were recruited from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England, however the "Black and Tans" being referred to in the song by Stephen Behan ("me da" in the song) were NOT the Black and Tans from the Irish War of Independence.
