The basic can lights in the ceiling just weren't cutting it. We love the vaulted ceilings in our great room but those four little lights are just so far away. We finally got around to picking out some additional fixtures to augment the basic lights that were installed when the house was built.
We'll show you the "before" state of the lighting at the beginning of the video. Watch to the end for the amazing transformation of improved light coverage. We love our kitchen but the new lighting just makes it that much more awesome to work in there.

Your pendant lightbulbs can be changed to the same brightness. We love the “fluorescent” look. I can never remember which they’re called but my hubby does so I take him shopping 😂

Thanks for joining the conversation! Yeah we could start swapping out other bulbs but that would start a domino effect that we'd rather not do. Our kitchen is part of a large, vaulted great room and has 4 can lights above the kitchen, and several more that cover the dining and living area. They are all the warmer light frequency and we actually prefer that in the majority of our home. We definitely find that we don't mind the deviation though for this task lighting under the cabinets. It's working out well.

When it comes to lighting in a "working space" (and yes, your kitchen DEFINITELY qualifies), one should definitely prioritize function over form. You're fortunate in that you largely were able to scratch both itches with a great pair of solutions. I was hoping that you'd end the video with a shot from the same camera placement you started the video with, starting with your "original" lighting, then turning on the pendants, and finally turning on the under-counter strips, so we could see the "before and after" effects from a static position. As always, well done! Thanks for taking us along.

It's a popular request and it hasn't fallen of deaf ears. While it isn't a great fit for our DIY themed "He Said She Shed" channel, we've been strongly considering a separate channel with a focus on food. It will be a few more months before we can launch but stay tuned!

You know how we use our under cabinet lights when we want to use it as accent lighting? We put the switch on a dimmer and use that as a nightlight in our kitchen.

I think the Edison probably looks best when the lights are off, but may be a bit harsh when on and you happen to glance at it.

That was our conclusion too. The curio aspect of those bulbs is pretty much when they're off. Definitely not worth the trade off for the coverage we were looking for from these fixtures. We learned a lot from the comparison exercise though. It was actually pretty fun. Thanks for watching!

Ooooo I love that pendant light fixture. I also love Farmhouse. I came over and subscribed from Becky’s channel. I’m all about renovations, I used to own a Construction Company, a painting company as well. This is a part of my wheelhouse. 😁 I’m going with the small round bulb. Small bulbs can look misleading. I thought to fix the power supply location issue you would have strung the two extensions together to the far end of the cupboard and then run in sequence from there. Would that have worked, or was there a limiting factor making that not an option?

That's a really good thought, Andrea. Electically speaking, your instincts are correct. That would work! I think you're also right that the combined length of the two spare extensions we had would have been enough to double back along the shorter length of cabinets. That would be simpler if you didn't want to invest in the heat activated splicers and heat gun that I showed. Also, they give you plenty of those little sticky-backed cable management thingies to dress that cable flush to the underside of the cabinets. Thanks for watching!

Can you add a link for the wiring “harness” that you put the wires into then use the heat gun to shrink?

Ah! I should have though of providing that. I love these things! You can get kits of various sizes and they include a variety of diameters. It just depends on what gauge (how fat) the wires are you're trying to join or perhaps the quantity of smaller wires you're shoving in. This is the variety pack that I chose... amzn.to/3ZHUdm5
