Čačak is my hometown, and thank you for speaking nicely about it. You missed seeing a lot of beautiful things, but one place you must visit is the top of Mount Kablar, from where you can see the gorge, monasteries, river (lake) and Ovčar Banja. The end of the asphalt road is 600m from the top.

It's really nice that you exploring Serbia. Many people from abroad who come to us focus exclusively on Belgrade and Novi Sad. I think that the rest of Serbia has a lot to offer! Suggestion for a next trip is my southern Serbia and of course thumbs up for your boyfriend! 😊😊

@@Isabel-Maria Just yesterday I was in Kosovo and Metohija. My father is from there. For us Serbs, that piece of land plays a big role in who we really are. There are many organizations that organize tours. The price is from 50 to 100 euros, depending on how many days the tour lasts. These are mostly organizations where young people are involved. I'm not getting into your planning, but trips to Kosovo and Metohija happen often, almost every weekend, and they're not expensive. Before your trip, you can watch a couple of clips from Serbian KZbinr Quartz313 about his travels in Kosovo and Metohija. 🙂

Interesting, how did you feel when you were in kosovo? Relatively safe? That’s a place that I’ve been watching to check out for some time, but my boyfriend is worried about the unrest there

@@Isabel-Maria Serbian people who live in territory of Kosovo and Metohija are blackmailed, forced to make many compromises. They are in a very difficult situation and they may feel unsafe and unwelcome sometimes, lately very often. People who go on tourist tours do not feel that way. Do not worry. Especially since you speak English. I have been to most cities and had no problems. Especially if you go on organized tours led by people who have a lot of experience in visiting Kosovo and Metohija. Days when you should skip the tour could be June 28, Serbian holiday Vidovdan. On that day, a lot of people from central Serbia go to Kosovo and Metohija, and the attention of the police is greater than usual, but those are probably also the best days to visit. And the days of the elections, which btw were last weekend.

There is water in almost every Orthodox temple... On Epiphany day, it is customary to sanctify the water in the monastery and take it home as "holy epiphany water" and keep it until the next year, in the meantime it is used for various religious ceremonies....
@Isabel-Maria
@Isabel-Maria Жыл бұрын
I figured! And I know that water is considered holy, so I wasn’t so surprised to see it there. I was just surprised to find spring-fed sources at every monastery!

@@Isabel-Maria Often, the basis for construction was a source of water (everyone has to get water), so it is not uncommon for a spring to be consecrated or dedicated to a saint or for a church to be built on the site of the spring or in the immediate vicinity. The Slavs were nomads with a lot of cattle, water was always important to them. In most Slavic languages water is still called voda(вода)

@@Isabel-Maria There is no other source of potable water there but from springs. There were no water supply systems back in the times when the monasteries were built. Every old monastery has its spring water.

In medieval times, when these are made, there was no water systems. So, all churches, monasteries, fortresses, towns were either built around river or next to springs, so they could be self-sufficient. A place where water was good to drink (there are springs rich in metals and other natural minerals dilutable in water and not healthy), that has place to grow crops or herd animals, was a good spot. It can function by itself. Usually animals would show where is good, they wouldn't drink from there if water was not good.

Nice video. For next vacation I suggest trip to Novi Pazar and monasteries and old castles on the way there. In Novi Pazar there is famous clothing market , best days for shopping are Sunday and Thursday. On the way back you two can sleepover in Kopaonik mountain or you can go back over Sjenica (nature on the way there is amazing) and sleepover in Zlatibor mountain. Nice for a two day vacation to run away from crowded rainy Belgrade. I am happy to see you are doing fine and smiling. Bye. :)

Vavedenje Monastery, that you liked colour blue so much, was built in 1528, but it was destroyed and renewed several times. The last time it was renewed 1930, so the wallpaintings are from that decade. Nevertheless, style, colours and techniques are more-less identical reproduction of XIV and XV century serbian fresco painting, so it very faithfully resembles original church. That blue is called Byzanthian Blue, by the way. That is how most of Serbian old monasteries looked like while they were "young", but centuries must leave traces on frescos that are not burried into some temperature-humidity controlled vault, but are on the wall of living church.

@@Isabel-Maria the most important fresco painting with the blue background is the representation of the Crucifixion in the Studenica monastery. That fresco was painted in 1208/9 AD when one gram of the blue pigment equaled one gram of gold. It was that rare and that valuable.

That was great trip !!! I enjoyed in those views , ask your bf why you didnt visit Užice city, it is a city in the middle of mountains where most people lives in tall skyscrapers cause there is no place to build houses or anything else. The city is located in a small basin surrounded by high mountains and gorges, The view of the city is brutal.

The reason why every monastery has it's own source of drinking water is because of that they are usually built on the springs. We find a source first and then we build. :)
