I congratulate this brilliant guy on his use of comedy to address a cultural issue!!...well done and I think he is genius. I am a South African born Indian and I experienced the exact sane thing in the Indian community I grew up. I thought I was the ugliest person alive and I never married because I thought no one would marry me because of my dark skin. I am now 54 years old still single and no kids. Over the past 22 years I worked as an English teacher in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Turkey. I also lived in Panama , Colombia and Paris, France. And everywhere I lived people love fair skin and treat dark skin as inferior. But now I love my dark skin and I love the woman I have become, a kind, loving , caring, respectful, warm,friendly and gracious individual who is a honest, hard working, and diligent professional. I think this guy is a brilliant , humble and wonderful guy and I pray that he will find a lovely young lady who will love him and care for him because he has a beautiful heart! As Indians we must teach our children to appreciate a persons character and look at someone's heart , the color of the heart is more important than the color of one's skin.

@marccohen13354 жыл бұрын
You sound like a lovely person. But I think that the color of one's skin is equally important as the color of one's heart, but in different ways. The color of one's skin is important aesthetically. Objectively all skin colors are equally beautiful. It's a simple spectrum from whitish-eggshell to almost black, no blues, reds, or greens. But different societies put an aesthetic value on one skin type or another. I personally adore dark skin in its various shades. It can be gorgeous. I think you've learned the trick of not internalizing other people's preconceptions into your self-image. I have a saying: Why the hell do I have to look like you?!

There were two stunning girls there who found me very attractive, but they avoided me as much as possible. Racial stratification is ubiquitous in the US so I understood what the issue was instantly... It took a while until I found out how big of a deal skin tone, class and caste is in Indian culture. I wish everyone the best. The loneliness and lack of opportunity associated with such things can be soul-crushing.

India is a great place, I had great and beautiful memories there however pardon my french cos I think the joke is quite close to my personal experience. In my oracle class in Bengaluru, Koramangala 8th block, we had 5 African in the institute. If you ask any one of us who the most beautiful girl in the institute was, we would have pointed to the same girl. She was tall, had a great shape, friendly with everyone and very decent. She was also intelligent, however, she was dark. When I ask my Indian friends who they think is most beautiful, she never made anyone's top 10 however they all agreed that she is all other things (smart, elegant, decent), but not beautiful. I understand that we all have the definition of beauty which is shaped by our experiences and society. Example, Africans also subscribe to the fair skin plus bold features (front and back if you know what I mean).

The rest 29% of the women also want fair skinned men but don't have problem with dark skinned men if they have money. It's the women who accept dark skinned groom for money. U r acting like dark skinned men have better life than women 🙄. Tell women to not accept every men for money and stop blaming men for ur insecurities. And how can u say 70% and 100% ? Can I show u some white skinned man and dark skinned women couples? How can it be 100%. If the women don't have problem with dark skinned groom, what can men do? U said beauty standards destroy women more. I don't agree with u. Beauty standards destroy men more because of feminism these days, people can't beauty shame women. They say every women is beautiful but if men is ugly he is ugly no matter what. And beauty means not only about skin it's about height, weight, etc. Women don't want short men but men don't have problem with short girls what about that? Women have problem with skin and weight but men have problems with skin, height, weight, job, money. So who is struggling more? Let's remove job and money from the equation. Still men r being destroyed by the beauty standards not women. Atleast skin can be changed but how can u change ur height instantly?

I lived in India and a few monthes when I was 19. The amount of attention I got from Indian men was extremely uncomfortable. They kept wanting to touch my face and hair and would tell me so much that they liked how pale I was not realizing how creepy or terrible that sounded.

A dark skinned Indian friend of mine said to me after I took a photo of her "I don't like it I look like a Black lady in this"...It is really heartbreaking that there is still such a prejudice over skin colour in India and people don't appreciate the things that really matter in a person

“Melanin, not Teflon” that was a good one!!! 😝 I’m not Indian, so there were a few things in here that I didn’t fully understand, but I’ve been aware of Indian beauty standards for quite a few years now, and even I can say he was spot on with his jokes! Strange thing is, while really funny, there was also underlying sadness because of how true the things he said are! The obsession with fair skin, preferring male children to female, and that there’s a disproportionate number of men to women in Indian. ☹️ To all the Indians out there, you are BEAUTIFUL! 😍🥰😘
