I was thinking exactly what Gypsy Minion said, and as for spanking a kid. If people loved their kids enough to spank them at home when they are young and just a small swat will do to correct a child. If you allow them to go unpunished. You teach them that there is no justice in the world. There is no consequences for bad behavior and there is no reason to respect anyone anything and least of all themselves. They grow up thinking nothing they do matters so they have no standards. Trust me if you do not teach your kids about right and wrong then you are shirking your responsibility as a parent and you dump that responsibility on society and society will take on that responsibility and you will be visiting your children in jail. Better to teach them when they are young and you can be easy on them and it will bring about the desired results. You don't want to wait till they are out of control and have to learn the hard way through things like jail, living with a felony record for the rest of their life. Some mistake are permeant and if you care about your kid you will do whatever it takes to save them from that. I can't respect someone who doesn't love their kid enough to make them do right when they are young and it is easy. You only have a few short years to be a good influence on them and then they are on their own and you no longer have any say in what they do or don't do but if you want them in your life you'll be obeying them because after all you are the one who taught them that the whole world revolves around them including yourself.

Delete my comments as you may, but it won’t change the fact that physical abuse is not funny, especially when it’s done to a child. Hitting and spanking children will only lead to temporary compliance, rather than helping them truly understand what's right from wrong. Employing violence and coercion to discipline children teaches them nothing more than "might is right", while sowing the seeds of hatred, resentment and rebellion in their hearts. You might be able to beat your children into submission but you certainly can't hurt them into loving and respecting you. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". One can only earn love and respect through treating others with empathy and reason.

I knew a very well to do family that did not believe in spanking their children. they were impossible to be around. teenagers that should know better would crawl all over you like a toddler. spanking a child is NOT abuse. beating a child is...but sarcasm is NOT. this guy is a comedian. that's what makes it funny, we KNOW that this is hyperbole.
