On dad's side of the family, his parents were from Scotland, and living in Houston. Southern drawl combined with the Scottish b(dddr)rogue. "Dad, what did she say??" Men, I can totally relate to you. I was born in Mexico from Italian parents, but from the north of Italy, where most people look from Austria or Germany, and grew up in California from about twelve years up to adulthood. So, while in Mexico no one thought of me as a Mexican or Italian , and while in the USA, no one thought I could be Mexican or Italian, and while in southern Italy no one thought of me as an Italian or a Mexican.....

I had a Cuban dad and a British mom, and grew up in Texas. I too am very white looking, and people have a hard time reconciling it with my multicultural background. This routine made me laugh and reminded me of so many experiences I had (like people who had seen Scarface assuming I would have major drug connections 😅).

I don't even understand the why or reason that people identify you with Scarface. Unless you are purposely speaking broken English w/your acquired, Cubano accent? Anyway, Cubano's come in all colors, no surprise there, what's your point? LOL.

Ethnicity and language are funny things. What’s stranger than hearing a foreign language is when you understand what they are saying. I must have learned Spanish by osmosis. In a place called Ironbound in Newark New Jersey, everyone speaks their own language and we still understand each other. We speak Portuguese from Portugal, Portuguese from Brazil, Spanish from Cuba, Porto Rico, Mexico, Columbia, Peru, Argentina Spain and other places and we can speak English too, sometimes. Everyone just speaks whatever happens to come out. It’s great!

As a third generation German born and, mostly, raised in South America (ironically many of the same places he mentions), I can definitely confirm many of the things he said about looking one way with a different upbringing. The story about "the maid being happy with the baby"? 100% true. Our maid in Peru (in late 1960's) insisted on doing the stroller walk with me in the afternoons so that she could brag in front of the other neighborhood maids that I was indeed "niñito de Dios" (God's child). Seriously (well, I don't remember - according to my mom). For me walking around and listening to Latinos "speaking behind my back" and then answering in perfect Spanish is a joy to this day. 🤣🤣🤣
