Let’s hear it for the MC!! I wish more people appreciated it..all acts should try it at least once.

Indeed, at least once, delivers a maelstrom of insights. Ideally several times to get a grasp and shake off that "first effort" shimmer. Thanks for the comment Celia :)

Great stuff from Alfie here. I did Alfie's full course a few years back and it these is just a taster. If you get the chance you should do it. Until then watch this and learn.

Recommended, for sure you'll learn a lot from Alfie. There can't be very much this man has not experienced in the centre of his London comedy stage.

Thank you sir. True dat. I have been threatened by acts and audience, followed to my motorbike and shoved after a gig, spat at and shoved off stage. Yet still, those 100, 000+ laughs mean I still LOVE it.

Aw man I remember when Alfie used to MC a comedy night in Liverpool Street. Every night was jammed packed with loud city boys who were all trying to out do each other. Alfie used to coral and control these guys in such top quality fashion. There wasn't much he didn't have to deal with... and he always did expertly. They were great fun times and real lesson in how to own a room. Listen to the guy when it comes to MCing, he knows what he's talking about. All his tips come from first hand experience.

Alfie gave me some coaching on how to MC a gig, and invited me to host a couple of his We Are Funny nights - I was hesitant at first because I didn't think I wanted to MC, but he really showed me how it could help me develop as a standup.

The role of an MC is like the glue that holds the whole thing together . It is indeed a skill set to have a person to compare from one act to another considering the different types of comedy to blend it & make it seamless. It bodes for a great evening. Watching Alfie many a time, he makes it look easy but in fact takes a lot of practice. He is excellent at commenting positively in certain quirks of the person's act , to improvise and of course to roll with the punches. He has occasionally taken the odd jibe and slate in good jest. I guess we all are looking forward to those intimate comedy shows again and I encourage those seasoned comedians to drop your Brexit/Trump jokes because they are as fresh as a tramps underpants😂

Thank you. I like being the glue, it's more fun than being the glued IMHO

I first saw Alfie MC back in 2012, he was good then, he’s one of the best now. Some of the funniest moments I’ve ever experienced at a comedy club have flowed from this maestro’s mouth, bespoke for the moment, lost forever to the ether, as all great art should be. If Alfie was a guitarist he’d be Jimmy Hendrix; great rhythm, beautiful riffs and even his mistakes are sublime. Highly recommended.

A lot of sense there, particularly about the MC "attacking" an audience member for no reason, happens a lot in open mic and never at pro gigs.
@wearefunnyproject63183 жыл бұрын
It's a sad truth, newer MCs think something like "Right, time for the 'Crowd Work' and confuse that with be awful to a pleasant quiet audience member... audiences can be teased for sure, but not randomly attacked. Cheers Ron
