We learned about Paul because of the poem. Back when kids had to memorize and recite poetry to others, The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere was often chosen, along with crowd-pleasers like Hiawatha, The Raven, If, Trees, and passages from Shakespeare. By the by, in our school at 5th grade in the text book is the story of Sybil Ludington, to compare and contrast with Paul Revere. I don't know when you were in school or how much you paid attention instead of doodling, but some kids learn about Sybil AND Paul.
