ahmad abdolsaheb I think he is supposed to be working on some small web series side project style thing for HBO's HBO Go service, or something like that. "a teaching tool for future generations." Seems the "teaching tool" would need a tweek then. The Iraq liberation act passed in the 90s with wide bipartisan support. Democrats (Including then president Bill Clinton) filibustered and lectured for hours in support for US intervention in Iraq, made the same assertions that these Republicans Jon is poking fun of made and for the exact same reasons. Strangely, only Republican politicians and pundits are being crucified for it. Curious thing that.
@-radioq20268 жыл бұрын
+Magum Op that's because the democrats have admitted wrong judgement and stayed quiet while the republicans are saying/doing it over and over again and remind everyone they haven't learned sh*t. In fact they shift their blame to the president they passed down the mess to. Got it?
@anthonycampos80578 жыл бұрын
Magum Op yeah it is a curious thing that as you say republicans are being crucified for that, probably because here they are lecturing and criticizing Obama on how he needs to handle isis when they are the ones who screwed up Iraq in the first place so they need to shut up and stop talking
@biglouch918 жыл бұрын
Fetsum1 "that's because the Democrats have admitted wrong judgement and stayed quiet" Lol that's some pretty fancy revisionist history. It's more like Dems have taken note of the American discontent about the war and peddled the cut-and-run policy for political grist. The same policy that lead to the formation of the Islamic state. Dems NEVER "stayed quiet." Almost every attempt was made to capitalize on the Republican's mishandling of the war. "In fact they shift their blame to the president they passed down the mess to" Jesus Christ. What an amazing ahistorical fantasy. Firstly, COMPLETELY blaming Bush for the Iraq war is "shifting blame" because, as I stated, CLINTON passed the Iraq liberation act and the war had massive bipartisan support. Secondly, no one is blaming Obama for the war. He is receiving blame for mismanaging what little ground was made on that effort AND drastically escalating tensions in the region by disrupting the regime in Libya and Syria.

As an Iraqi I can assure you Saddam was not the ideal president but he certainly was not the worst around. Iraq was stable under his regime, Iraqis were more educated and secular, Christians and Yezidies were protected and he used to visit churches and temples himself to show his support. Saddam gave the kurds anonymity and helped them during the Kurds civil war (between Talebani and Berzani clans). He was secular and did not tolerate extremism from Sunnis and Shia, he knew what they are capable of. Also it does bother me when people say ''we gave you freedom'', No.... you cannot achieve freedom for OTHERS especially by attacking them, freedom could only be achieved by those who are suffering themselves (e.g. Iraqis) and have a burning desire for democracy, equality and ...... freedom.

As St. Paul declared in the New Testament, "What can man do to us?... to live is Christ and to die is gain!" Doesn't sound like a banner for cowards to follow, now does it, little guy? I care not when or where the battle shows up. I will be fully armed with the truth and ready to deliver it. I care not when or how the end comes for me. I will prove true to Christ's call. Show me the roll of all the valiant atheists, agnostic, valueless, radical, iconclastic idiots roaming this earth like it's theirs and I will overwhelm them with the heroic followers of Christ, who faced martyrs' deaths throughout history. Know-nothing punks like you will be found shaking in fear. And I'd say, 'good luck' at the Judgment, but luck will have nothing to do with it.

Since McCain's death, there are so many articles praising his domestic policies that I almost forgot how his foreign policies helped to destabilize the Middle East and create the current wave of chaos. For all he stood up to Trump, it was the mess he helped to create that gave Trump a message. The same for Bush and all their team. It's important to remember this, there needs to be balance and accountability, those are key factors to make sure those in power think their decisions through. Although, to be fair, it's not my place to tell others how to live. After all, I don't have the biggest military force in history at my beckoning. Nor would I be willing to use it to attempt a political reform at a foreign country, much less top down reform with little planning. Edit: Apparently, in 2020 he and the Marines were all morons for joining the military, according to Agent Orange. Don't worry, though, there is another supporter of the wars running for president as Republican lite. You know, another old guard that will get praised just for not being Trump while getting scott free out of having caused millions of deaths worldwide.

I was still in elementary school when I first heard that "Bomb Iran" song. And though I was quite the xenophobic bastard back then, and still am an interventionist to a degree, that song has always disturbed me. The joyful singing of killing the enemy by combatants in theatre is morbid, but natural and inevitable. But the spreading and targetting of a song to the civilian populace which so merrily lauds the dropping of high explosive devices on a nation, with intent to maim and kill as many combatants and support personnel as possible (civilian deaths and devastated families a certainty) always has and always will appall and disgust me. And there's a whacked out fundamentalist wingnut, at one point a presidential candidate for the nation with most powerful army and nuclear arsenal, singing this song like a Christmas carol. Republicans, you are fucked.

You can't force-feed the concept of Democracy into the Middle East. Their culture, which has worked for them throughout the centuries, and, is no way inferior to Western ideals calls for a leader, more-so (hopefully) a 'benevolent' dictator to take the reins of power, like the caliphs, and sultans of old. If they truly want democracy let them fight over it, let them shed blood among themselves with no interference from western (or even asian) powers. I believe if the people want to institute change then it will eventually come, but it must come from within and it must come gradually.
@starmyk10010 жыл бұрын
idiot america needed any foreign help to impose their ideals? mr surftl is right if the people wanted democracy they would already have for an instance my country was ppart of a dictatorship our military forces revolted aqainst the opressor and repel them and we didnt any help let them work their differences you should only interfere when the losses are on your soil like 9/11 and that is sorted out the responsables were punished so turn your nose the other way around and stop killing your won troops

Unfortunately not all cultures are equal. Some cultures will marry off their children - both girls and boys - while they're too young to understand. In some cultures men can beat women. Some cultures don't have religious freedom. I make no claim to what the US should do or avoid. International politics are complicated. But I won't hesitate to call a culture of child marriages backwards. And I won't hesitate to call a culture without religious freedom inferior.
@cohavideos10 жыл бұрын
wobster109 Go ahead and call their practices backwards. You have every right to do so. It might even help to bring awareness or bring light to that area and help to start a group in that area by online voicing of opinion - who knows. But to say that we should send troops to correct their practices is absolutely absurd. No matter how much wrong there is in the world, it is impossibly idealistic (and wrong) to try to be the world police. Not only is it self-righteous and impractical, it often ends up starting more conflicts than it resolves.

Trevor is a black south african, we all know the white moderate hates to see an angry black man. They hate whites or latinos as well, as they want everyone to caress their sense of self by saying that it's gonna be alright. But the white moderate loves that one MLK speech, everything else is seen as a threat. When people protest to see change, in comes the unmarked vans. So I think Trevor is too nice and calm compared to Jon, but I can see why he wouldn't get the same treatment.

What if it wasn't really about oil at all? What if there is something more valuable than oil and more desireable to have control over? What if it was about control over the agriculture of the region? Pharmaceuticals of many kinds are dependant on natural plantlife to create the substances that make them what they are, and now that the larger percentage of the world is dependant on these drugs, in one way or another and in one form or another, what if it was all to protect the interests of the makers of these drugs? Oil & petrolium companies are wealthy, sure, but pharmaceutical companies are most assuredly moreso and will continue to gain wealth exponentially as long as the ingredients they need to make the drugs that they make are protected and safe from those who are the opposition. As it is today- If you control the oil, you get their attention, but if you control the drugs, you control even those who THINK THEY control the world. Think about it--- From simple maintenance doses of blood pressure drugs, to cancer supression drugs, & from aspirin to heroin, Big Pharma-The WORLDWIDE DRUG DEALERS, has as big a hold on society as Big Oil ever did, and while more ways are being devised every day to use less oil, the same CANNOT be said for the pharmaceutical industry, who can also charge ANY PRICE they want to for their wares, and is constantly coming up with new drugs that more people "need" and will be bought en masse ad infinitum. So, do you still think it was really all about oil?
@jackchorn8 жыл бұрын
Jeffery A. Hunt"control the oil and you control the Nation, control the food and you control the people" Kissinger after he was assigned the world Over population problem in the 70's. I like where your going with these drugs- They got little children on amphetamines for gods sake. To add to your theory- I saw some obscure lecture given by this Dr. Poole guy- it was on C-span. There seemed to be many uniforms in the crowd. This lecture was on the bacteria in the human body- and the ability to tell exactly where that person had been- I also assume they are looking into the different affects of exposure to bacteria and molds. But all that- this Doctor worked for the DOD bioweapons field and at the time of this lecture was working for Monsanto. Could it be that the foods feed the need for the Meds? Control the food as we all know the few GMO corps. are doing a very good job. As they saying that is attributed to Caesar for giving White bread to the population- Feed the stomach and not the mind- Are they doing this today but in an industrial tech way? It is Kissinger after all.

I find Mr. McCain's rendition of the Beach Boys song Barbara Ann more offensive than anything I have ever heard Jon Stewart or any other comedian, American or otherwise, say. Classless and shameful. He is no comedian, and that's not a joke.

What's really annoying is that people around my age (I'm 24 in 2024) have no real education on this issue. We grew up steeped in these issues concerning the Middle East, but 9/11 happened before many of us were even conscious. This all became background noise. Pardon the innapropriate metaphor (I don't have another one), but it's a bit like starting to watch a highly detailed, intricate, nuanced, and serialized show in it's fifth season. And you know none of it was taught about in schools, and probably still isn't. I've seen movies and researched about it, but even true and genuinely reflective movies only convey a fraction of the story, and sources we would want to use in research can be difficult to trust Thinking about just watching a bunch of old Jon Stewart shows and seeing how far THAT gets me. At least I know he's not lying

Literally his dna. This dude had enough talent to become a cult leader bc of how he directed and read the crowd. But he just opted to be the privileged elite that became a fighter and a voice for the little man, against the oppressive 1%, his class of peers... I am willing to bet that bc of this job, he was shut out of a LOT of social events that normally he would have access to, IF he hadn't done TDS.

Jon Stewart is a national treasure. He dragged satirically challenged Americans to the doorstep of the truth in a way that has never since been replicated. My greatest regret is that he left the spotlight just before the biggest loser became president. His dissection of the daily nonsense would have been a soothing balm during the pants-on-fire Trump presidency.
