The bionic last leg of racism remark was pretty brilliant, too. I don't really think it's a rich white person's job to go on TV and say racism is basically over. Instead, how about we hear from the people being discriminated against right now, and what they have to say on the topic? I get the feeling the two accounts would be... a little different.

I was raised in a southern Floridian household. As soon as I knew what racism was I knew my household was racist. It didn't take me long to find my way into politics and find out what was happening from the source. I couldn't state that my family was wrong but my beliefs couldn't be tainted by my racist environment. So yeah, I call BS Fox news

Its just the same crap. If you take time to look back the tactics and narrative that fox news uses is exactly the same. If its a conversation about guns "its to early to have this conversation were still burying the dead" (same narrative the just used with the people who stormed the capital in some ways). If its racism "its because of a narrative that people have been taught rather than the actual existence of racism. Its on the black community to fix this problem not the white community" FOX hasn't changed one damn bit and its because sadly it works on their base. And as long as it works they will just keep playing the same tactics over and over. Its almost nauseating at this point but what do you expect from a network of and for racism and sexual harassment?

Jon Stewart is irreplaceable. When he steps down, it will be like The Nothing from The Neverending Story swept through American news shows. There'll just be... nothing, to compare. Exceptionally good as John Oliver is, and he is doing a great job shining a torch into unfashionable injustices in American society, you need his sort of fearless anger, Jon Stewart's insight and willingness to take brave stands against vested interests, that sort of counterpoint, it's needed *every* day.

insomniacfolder He is irreplaceable for sure, but Jon Oliver (disciple of JS/Daily Show, as many great comedians who are now big were) is doing an admirable job (imo) of carrying the torch. His latest Edward Snowden interview is a perfect example. Big big JO fan and he gives me hope far as a good news/political-satire show in similar mold of the Daily Show going forward. It was a sad day when I heard Jon Stewart was retiring, but he's done his part and had a great run. The Daily Show was/is a unique experience for me in that it exposes the hypocrisy of government etc. so clearly with such graceful ease and is both hilarious yet morally infuriating at the same time. I can even count the number of times he's done a story which I struggled to comprehend how it could actually be real. I see Jon Stewart as a modern day Charles Dickens in a sense. The world needs the type of social commentary he provides. News is changing, people are starting to wake up a bit i think, and a big reason for this is because of Jon Stewart. No question in my mind. I shudder to think what the major news/media landscape would look like without someone who's had as much influence and success as he's had keeping a lot of the B.S. in check and exposing injustices to such a broad audience. His contribution has been invaluable.

I do not expect Trevor Noah to do anything on Stewart's level, but it's not fair to expect that. If Noah is lucky, he can keep some of Stewart's writers infusing them with some fresh blood and talent and who knows maybe in a few years we will wonder how we ever did without Noah.
