Getting the backstory on my favorite shows of the past is interesting. I read somewhere that they were 13-15 episodes short of 100 which is the syndication sweet spot where the actors can negotiate for larger residuals. The way Omar broke it down w/o naming names implicates T. Mowry as the holdout by not only naming him as the title character actor, but also the hints he dropped: *He:* Eliminates E. Atkins. *Is at a camp:* Eliminates J.M. Jones. *They rewrote a Marcus/Mo plot:* Eliminates J. Weaver & O.Gooding. Tahj Mowry people could have handled it better than bringing it up in the middle of the season and interupting production which likely left the network with a bad taste in their mouth. If they tapped in with the other actors and went to production as an united front before the season started like the cast of Friends did, the show would have probably went on for 2 more seasons easily which would have meant more $$$ on the front and back end. Although Tahj played the title character, that didn't diminish the contributions of his castmates. IMO, Omar was a huge part of the shows success.

What bothers me about the sentiment of what's being said and some of the comments I see is that everyone keeps talking about greed and how it ruined it for the rest of the cast. Do you realize that the cast of "Friends" all demanded a pay raise of 1 million dollars an episode? So why is it that when you ask for what you are worth as a black person, other black people talk dog shit to you? Word to Monique. Instead of blaming the cast, blame their employers for milking black entertainment for all it's worth without so much as a real budget or pay for their cast and more than likely staff too.

I agree with you, but the cast of Friends went in together as an united front on a bigger network (more ad $$$ available) at the beginning of the season. @Alex Kanyima after 100 episodes. A sitcom can be sold and distributed to smaller networks. For replays. In the tv business that’s called syndication. Now a days it’s in an actors contract. That they receive payment when those episodes are re aired.
@TheNumbasign24 жыл бұрын
Bro. Back then a top sitcom actor got a mill an episode. So I figured his twin sisters had to be seeing 6 figures an episode. Because their’er show was a hit. Being his parents, and knowing the value of having a successful show. Knowing he could/ feeling he should at least be making 10 times the money he probably was getting. Shit would have been crazy for me as a business person. I probably would have made him quit.

True the show was about Smart Guy Tahj, but like Omar said, they came in retrospectively equal. So can't knock the pay being the same. But for Omar an Jason who have been on successful shows already they could've asked for more. But it's good to see greed didn't consume them.
@SLa-pb1gg4 жыл бұрын
Oh Omar definitely could have. He was fresh off a successful sitcom as a series regular
@Nado02274 жыл бұрын
Some of y’all are acting real weird trying to pin this on Tahj, especially since he was around 13-14 when the show was being filmed for the 3rd season. His mom was his manager at the time and she probably thought her son should get more since he was the star and the show was based around him. I don’t agree with the timing according to Omar but I still don’t think it was wrong to ask.
@ZaryPhotography4 жыл бұрын
I agree, it was not wrong at all for him to ask but the timing seemed vicious like she deliberately tried to put them in a uncomfortable position for them to crack and get a raise rather than do negotiations the proper way ahead of the beginning of the new season. Momager ruined that boys career.

He was the star of the show, naturally, he should have been paid more. The storylines were centered around him. His manager probably made the call to ask for more money especially a show that was considered for a 4th season.
@TheCarContractSlayer4 жыл бұрын
@@GSU2004 he wasn’t the star. He was a gimmick. Jason Weaver already had a built in audience from playing “Michael Jackson” and he did music. Essence was attractive and catered to the male Audience. The dad was super chill and catered to the adult audience while not being overly aggressive. Mo was funny and actually gave Tahj a reason to be funny. They all played their roles and were equal. Never forget smart guy got his role because he was Tia and Tamera little brother and their show done really well. My point is everyone had an audience for the show. He was no more of a star than anyone else.

It was clearly the main character Taj lol. Anybody else would’ve been replaced and wrote off. We know how Hollywood move. I assume the parents wanted more pay, which I don’t see a problem with.
