To be fair, this is only his interpretation and ours really. He wasn't the producer, director, or anything besides another cast member. Omar was also missing from a season 3 episode "A Little Knowledge". so maybe he wasn't throwing someone else under the bus ( he was careful with his legal wording) Disney was funding the show and had never had a show go beyond 3 seasons, it wasn't till 2007 and a massive writing campaign got a show the first 4th season.

@@AnastasiaLUVSU That's not why it was canceled. It was canceled because the main character wanted more money and ended up walking away from it. Underrated means it wasn't that popular during the time it aired (which it was) , but gained a following in later years. Therefore it's not underrated.

@@shiestysean The Girlfriends 'spinoff' was based on a character that was created as a 'relative' of Joan who we just met on the pilot and the rest was history. To me, outside of the connection of Joan's cousin, it technically wasn't a spinoff to me. Usually, we get to meet a character over the episodes or a season. Even with The Parkers, we never met Kim's mom until the backdoor pilot but it was centered around following Kim in college as she went to community college and the rest went to a regular college.

Bring back Smart Guy, Parker’s, Moesha, Girlfriends, Sister, Sister the list could continue for awhile. Especially during this quarantine; their numbers would be knocked out of the park, no doubt. @@Frwill126 It is true. The Olsen's though unfortunately for us are white and blonde. So they made their money from merchandise and licencing their image. America doesn't believe in the cuteness of black children the same. It's documented in studies black children are perceived as older etc. Even the joke about Benet Ramsey going missing the world stopped but 10 black kids they get one blurb of a mention. It was admirable what the parents wanted to do. TV did exploit black talent to fund their white shows none the less. Was just illustrating the complexity of the dynamics.

Even former NICK stars have come out and shared that's how it was on their shows. At the time, no one complained as NICK was breaking into scripted original programming and history was being made but as the network started growing in popularity, naturally folks wanted a bigger piece of the pie. But NICK's rationale was 'kids love familiarity so we can do like 40 new episodes, cancel the series and rerun the show forever.'

@@nomibe2911 I support Tahj asking for more money as he was the 'Smart Guy' in which the show was based around. While it was ensemble-based with storylines and character development, he was the face of the show, not the other characters even though Essence was a HOTTIE!! If the show was doing well and brought in some money, it wasn't like Tahj was asking for what Jaleel White was getting from Family Matters. Jaleel saved Family Matters from cancellation in 1990 as it was doing poorly until he came in mid way through the first season. Getting the backstory on my favorite shows of the past is interesting. I read somewhere that they were 13-15 episodes short of 100 which is the syndication sweet spot where the actors can negotiate for larger residuals. The way Omar broke it down w/o naming names implicates T. Mowry as the holdout by not only naming him as the title character actor, but also the hints he dropped: *He:* Eliminates E. Atkins. *Is at a camp:* Eliminates J.M. Jones. *They rewrote a Marcus/Mo plot:* Eliminates J. Weaver & O.Gooding. Tahj Mowry people could have handled it better than bringing it up in the middle of the season and interupting production which likely left the network with a bad taste in their mouth. If they tapped in with the other actors and went to production as an united front before the season started like the cast of Friends did, the show would have probably went on for 2 more seasons easily which would have meant more $$$ on the front and back end. Although Tahj played the title character, that didn't diminish the contributions of his castmates. IMO, Omar was a huge part of the shows success.

What bothers me about the sentiment of what's being said and some of the comments I see is that everyone keeps talking about greed and how it ruined it for the rest of the cast. Do you realize that the cast of "Friends" all demanded a pay raise of 1 million dollars an episode? So why is it that when you ask for what you are worth as a black person, other black people talk dog shit to you? Word to Monique. Instead of blaming the cast, blame their employers for milking black entertainment for all it's worth without so much as a real budget or pay for their cast and more than likely staff too.
@tdemmingjr3816
@tdemmingjr3816 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, but the cast of Friends went in together as an united front on a bigger network (more ad $$$ available) at the beginning of the season. It wasn't one actor claiming to be more important than the rest trying to secure a raise for only himself, and also threatening to disrupt filming by trying to negotiate midseason. I can say that whille you should try to get the most that you can, if you don't have any leverage, it's a time and a place for it.

Bro. Back then a top sitcom actor got a mill an episode. So I figured his twin sisters had to be seeing 6 figures an episode. Because their’er show was a hit.
