Someday, I will give this a whirl ❤ I agree about black grapes being the best. They always are sweet and never bitter. I like to toss wet grapes in dry jello powder, then arrange a single layer on a plate in the fridge with a couple toothpicks stuck in for easy access when opening the fridge for other things. ❤

When I married, I could not cook. My husband wanted gravy and biscuits for breakfast. I tried. We could not get the gravy out of the skillet. My mother-in-law was a wonderful German cook. I was so ashamed. She taught me so much. I started looking at recipes everywhere. My hobby, if I ever had one, was researching good recipes. Now when I hear you reference your recipes, and her you say, "Oh, I have had that recipe 35 years." My heart jumps with joy. I have had to move several times in the past few years, and realize somethings means nothing to no body but me, my one treasure is my recipe collection. It means so much to sit and read them. I still look for good recipes. One day I will have to give these tresures up. They have notes written by them. I became the best pound cake baker in North West Alabama. Beautiful cakes that turned out perfect every time. Thanks Milissa for adding the recipes on the same page. Thanks for the effort you put into your show. You will get one of my Sunday recipes one day.

My husband loves grapes so I am definitely going to make this. I laugh when you bang the spoon on the side of the bowl. If my husband is nearby and hears me banging, he bangs exactly what I banged on something else! It’s become a thing!!😂 Love your videos and appreciated your post today honoring our fallen heroes. My dad was a WW II Army vet, my husband was a Navy pilot in Vietnam and my son an army vet in Afghanistan. All made it home but they have never forgotten those who didn’t. ❤

I've been making this salad for years. My kids called it, "Grape Goo". At church they never knew if they should put it with the salads or the desserts. Now, I was taught to mix the brown sugar in with the cream cheese mixture and also to stir the nuts into the salad. There was no "crust". Thanks for your time once again.

❤❤❤❤❤ So happy to see you and be able to hear Melissa. Regarding grapes, you said you washed them twice, well take a look of how I take care of my grapes, it takes time but is worth it. 1. With small scissors I cut the stem attached to the grape (almost closer to the grape) YOU DON'T pull the grapes from the stem BECAUSE there's still spider eggs or bacteria in the grape. If you PULL the grape from the stem the bacteria goes inside the grape. That is the reason you take small SHAP scissors to cut the stem with grape attached closer to the end of the stem were the grape is connected to. 2. After you have all your grapes ready do the following. You have 2 glass bowls One glass bowl has water and baking soda added to water. Add your grapes make sure they are not too tight in the bowl. Move them around. Wait 10 minutes and with your hands massage them gently, you are taking the bad part of the grape. RINSE them well with clear water 2 times keep of massaging gently. NOW put the grapes on second bowl of water plus a tablespoon of vinegar let the grapes sit for 5 minutes. DURING those 5 minutes take your second batch of grapes and add them to the water and baking soda. OK, It has been over 5 minutes since grapes were in part vinegar and water NOW add your grapes on CLEAN WAYER only, rinse and massage gently, do it again. Have a clean kitchen towel (Don't use paper towels) and put your clean grapes on your towel and dry them. WOW, LOOK HOW SHINY THEY ARE. NOW they are safe to eat just take away the tiny stem and enjoy your clean grapes. Go ahead add them to your salad THEY are safe to use. Just remember to dry them before they go in your salad. Don't forget the other batch of grapes that you put in water and baking soda😂 I told you, my process of cleaning grapes take a little extra time. I learned this from a Chinese cook and he even showed me the bacteria that was in the grapes even if you rinsed them twice. I do the cleaning of strawberry the same only vinegar and water. Massage gently, rinse them 2 times, put on kitchen towel, (DON'T USE PAPER TOWELS) dry them and freeze them for protein shake OR eat them they are OK to eat now. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ NOW I CAN MAKE YOUR RECIPE, MY GRAPES ARE NICE, CLEAN AND SHINY ❤❤❤❤

Grapes do have a "film" on them. It's called the bloom, and it's the fruit's natural wild yeast coating. Some sourdough bakers use grapes to start their sourdough mother. Plums, figs, blueberries, and other fruits have bloom as well.

Melissa is right about layering it. We layered it when I worked at Vanderbilt. I would take it to the other nurses and doctors when we would have a luncheon and I always put a layer of the grapes a layer of the topping another layer of grapes and then another layer of topping and that middle layer literally is absolutely delicious after it sits overnight in the refrigerator it’s unbelievably good. The middle becomes the syrup. If you talk all of it with a thin layer of the great mixture you will have nothing but syrup in the other two layers and it’s really good like that unbelievably good!

That looks very good. My complaint about this way of serving such a salad with a topping like this one has is that by the time my little ol’ hobbled self gets to the serving table in the buffet line, the topping went to the lickety-quicks who got there first. I’ll make this salad but I’ll serve it in a shallow baking dish. Those, like me, at the end of the line will have a chance of tasting the sweet and nutty “special” treat that actually makes the dish. I enjoy your channel very much and, since no one can prove otherwise, I tell people who like the dish that I got the recipe from a dear fiend. Shhh. If everyone knew your recipes I wouldn’t be the good cook people think I am. (!)

I made this salad for a church potluck. Knowing that our pastor was diabetic and I wanted him to be able to eat some it, I used Splenda to replace the white sugar. I also used low fat sour cream and reduced fat cream cheese. I left off the brown sugar and pecans, primarily because I don't care for pecans in my salad. It tasted exactly the same as it did when I'd made it with sugar and full fat other ingredients. Now that Splenda also had a brown sugar version, when I make it again, I'll sprinkle a little on top but definitely not as much as your recipe calls for--that to me was overkill.
@janblake22302 ай бұрын
I will share my minor variation on your grape salad. All the same ingredients but my method uses 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar combined. Continue with your instruction. When getting to the topping, only top with chopped nuts. Keeping them on top helps to keep them from getting soggy. My recipe calls for light brown sugar but I use dark. I also turn into a 9 x 13 dish. I love your channel and your recipes. I watch frequently.
