For the price, i have to say i've never used any film that comes close to the Gold 200. And about the warm tones, it's the feel that i assume is intended. Personally i love the warm "gold" tone that it provides.

I like the warm tone - but not when it turns my friends skin yellow! It's a lovely film for the price though 😊

I like Gold a lot, but I’ve had the same exact experiences. The skin tones especially start to fall apart about 10 minutes before sunset. I find it performs best about an hour before sunset, and then also using direct flash at night.

You've shot some really nice pictures there. And the video felt very good to watch too. The presentation is spot on and feels interactive. I myself want to get into 35mm film photography with an old Hotshot 35UF (Indian brand from the late 80's) point and shoot camera that belonged to my grandfather. I'm currently waiting to get it back from repairs and servicing and I'm really hoping it still works after at least 15 years of being unused and that it produces decent shots. Cheers!

Hi @@DaniloAllen The camera works and I got some decent shots on it using a roll of Kodak Gold 200. Some shots were of course complete duds, especially the ones I thought had a good framing and exposure. I'm still learning its quirks, so yes, expected. Definitely a good start though. I'm hunting for a better camera now and I also have loaded a Fujifilm C200 as my second roll. Almost halfway through it, plus I'm searching for good labs to get film developed properly where I stay. I realise that the camera is just an ordinary one, considering it was made locally in an era when photography as a hobby in general was not as common and a owning a camera was a bit of a luxury. Considering that, I think it works great. The nostalgia wave is pretty tall. Cheers and thanks! I hope the channel grows well! I hope we can connect on Facebook as well. I am into smartphone photography as one of my immensely favorite hobbies and post on my personal account very often. I'd love to see/hear what you think.

Gold has great saturation and wonderful almost vintage colors, unlike Portra. Gold is also very noisy (color noise) and grainy even in full daylight shots taken at ISO 200, unlike Portra. If you don’t zoom in or print large it’s not a problem, as you mentioned in the video. Good review.

Kodak Gold is great in normal daylight balanced light (not sunset). It's not one you want to overexpose the shit out of (which portra and fuji shooters love to do for those soft pastel looks). Shoot it at box speed , meter for the highlights, shoot in daylight balanced light, and you'll get great photos. I've made some of my favorite portraits on this film. It's meant for skin in daylight. It was made as an every day consumer family film. It's made for people in daylight.
@DaniloAllen
@DaniloAllen 3 жыл бұрын
Meter for the highlights you reckon even at box speed? That's unconventional right? Interesting - I will have to give that a try. And yes - I agree, sunsets look terrible. I guess some lessons are learned the hard way...

To me the 200 is nothing special, I find it lacks saturated colors and character. The 400 is less quality and sharpness but it brings out more color depending on the subject. Not a landscape or city film, more a film for very colorful objects. If you don't mind shooting 100, go with the Ektar for sharpness and nice colors, it's $2-$3 more than the 200 and has normal processing. It's sharp, with well balanced and quite saturated colors. Just not the best if one is shooting with P&S cameras in lower light

I've been using this lately too, (Nikon f3) and I've found that the highlights were often really blown out. Did you measue ISO down (like I've heard some other people do) to 100?

I measured it at exact value I believe with one or two shots overexposed by 1 stop
@joeltunnah
@joeltunnah 3 жыл бұрын
Paiwbtla, it sounds like a problem with your scanner process. I don’t think it’s possible to “blow out” the highlights (255 value on the scan) on Gold 200. I shoot it at box speed.
