I think GameSack had a similar series. "Same Name, Different Game" or something of the sorts. Always interesting to compare and contrast games from back then, since they were often done by different development teams. Then we moved into the era where the Consoles had 1 version and handhelds had another. Then we had the PSP/Vita era where the consoles had 1 version, DS had another and those titles might have had one or the other depending on game and budget. And now it's all pretty much 1 version.

I think the coolest part about Street Racer was that it was one of the few 4-player split-screen games for the SNES and Mega Drive. (Also, curious as to why only the SNES version see a US release and there was never a US Genesis release?) Rather than the split-screen being divided both vertically and horizontally like most 4-player games, it was horizontal for all players, giving each player a very narrow, ultrawide view! The later PlayStation and Sega Saturn ports would take this even farther by allowing an 8-player split-screen mode! _EIGHT PLAYERS!!_ And it still ran at a solid 60 FPS by lowering the draw distance and by not having a lot of polygons on the screen to begin with. (The drivers were still all sprite based.) I don't think there was ever any other game in that generation to allow that many players in a split-screen in that generation or any since unless you count the open-source racing game Speed Dreams, which allows you to split the screen up to 8 times, but setting up a local multiplayer game in it is not the friendliest experience. Beyond that, there's only Street Racer! Edit: I just remembered there was a Gamy Boy version of Street Racer that was based on the Mega Drive version that _did_ see a US release! So if you wanted to play a faster-paced, non-Mode 7 version of Street Racer and lived in the US at the time, this was your only option outside of importing the Mega Drive version for your Genesis. In fact, I briefly borrowed the Game Boy version from a friend back in the day, so that was my earliest experience with the game!

The audio is kind of not comparable. The snes used extremely squished samples and the Genesis was directly outputting mixed waveforms. It’s like comparing an old synth with an old sampler, (or rather, it almost is exactly that)…so while the snes could sound extremely beautiful, to say it’s higher quality is just a matter of taste than anything else.

Taz-Mania is probably the best repetitive game on the SNES. There was enough charm and challenge to keep me engaged with it. The later levels get pretty damn hard. Sparkster on SNES is a gem. Love your videos SLX, but you made a *glaring error* on The Flintstones not having a FAR closer equivalent title on the SNES. You completely looked over the existence of *'The Flintstones: The Treasure of Sierra Madrock'* which was vastly superior to the 1995 movie game. Sierra Madrock has a lot in common with the Genesis version, as well as many differences, mostly due to heavily cut content from its SNES counterpart. Sierra Madrock is legit one of my favorite platformers on SNES... fairly easy (I beat it with one hand due to breaking my arm back when it first released IoI), but incredibly polished, and packed with FAR more colorful content from the Flintstones cartoon than Sega's.
@SegaLordX2 ай бұрын
I mentioned this earlier in the comments but I chose two Flintstones games called just "The Flintstones" on purpose. I am indeed aware of The Treasure of Sierra Madrock but that was developed by Taito. The Genesis game was by Santos and released over a year sooner. The big difference there though is the name itself. If a game has a different name you expect a different game. I do admit I could have mentioned the other SNES Flintstones but I was trying to stick to the same name motif.
@Hausbrauen2 ай бұрын
@@SegaLordX 12:42 I'm just going by what you stated here within these 15 seconds, but I appreciate you owning up to that. Naming issue aside, Sierra Madrock is still quite different from the Sega release, and the SNES version mostly just builds upon it in every meaningful way -- beginning with having a world map that is plentifully filled with life and variety (one of many features Sega's earlier title doesn't have at all).

I remember back in the day when the two Aladdin games were released. Myself, and most of my friends, concurred that the SNES version was pretty good, but the Genesis version knocked it out of the park, and that's with the fact that the Genesis owners were in the minority in my circle of video gaming friends.
