I would recommend you use whole leaf tea as opposed to tea bags for two reasons: 1. It tastes infinitely better. 2. You can use it for multiple infusions, good green tea for example, can be used for 3¬5 infusions, which means you can carry less and make more.

When I was on a very cold campout with the Boy Scouts, I drank cups of plain hot water to help with the cold. I'm sure folks thought I was crazy but it's amazing how much better you can feel just drinking hot water even without anything in it. Keep up the good work with your videos.

I'm partial to honey water. So good. And thanks for commenting and watching. Are you still active in the outdoors? -Krik

As much as I can. I serve as an Asst. Scoutmaster in a Troop and also as a Den Leader in a Pack. Both units are big proponents of putting the "outing" in Scouting.

I may have to pack my Tupelo honey on the next campout and give that a shot. I'm sure the extra natural sweetness gives a little energy boost as well.

Great video Krik. There is nothing better than going out in to the woods and having a brew. I am introducing my 7 year old to the outdoors and we have picnics and hot chocolate. He loves it. Keep up the good work. Stewey (UK)

Can't say I have made it outdoors yet but roasted Chicory tea is great. Has a rich taste like coffee, but has no caffeine.

Really enjoyed this video. Glad you are doing this series. The chai tea is a great suggestion for outdoors. I camped last spring in the South Dakota Badlands and woke up to about 30 degree temps. I was very cold and so was my Dad. I had ground some freshly roasted coffee and packed it air tight right before the trip. Boiled some water that cold morning and made coffee in a French press. A cup of coffee does not get much better with the sunrise on that magnificent landscape.

Coffee would be nice in the bush. It would give you that energy boost you really need outdoors! Good video as always guys!

I have been using a glass Bodum press which is less than optimal for hiking. I have thought about trying a GSI Outdoors Java Press Coffee Maker which is made for the outdoors. If you are new to coffee using sugar helps. I typically use raw honey because it is a healthier option and goes well with coffee.

Yep, it's spelled chai. I know "chai" means tea in other languages as well. Technically, "chai" is a blend of spices and herbs. So I guess calling it chai tea is completely redundant. Ha. -Krik

Just like to point out that boiling temperatures vary depending on altitude. So close to sea level boiling water indicates 100 celsius (210 f ?) and adequate sterilization. At higher temperature the water boils at lesser temps and wont kill off everything in the pot so the boil needs to be maintained (time varying with height). Just to keep in mind for those who live at higher altitudes

I used this same stove set up all last winter. I didn't really have any problems with the fuel output. This Soto stove is supposed to excel and an extended, even output. But I would guess in VERY cold temps there could be an issue. Time will tell. I've used the Whisperlite before. I opted for the top of canister design because when I'm in the forest I'm usually alone or with one other person. -Krik

Thanks for the video.. You brought some things to light such as holding the cup for warmth . I know this seems logical but I would had just set it down to let it cool.. thanks for the tips.. Keep the videos coming!!!

My ultra cheap ultralight stove from Amazon will boil 15 to 17 pints of water on one of the small canisters. The stove and canister combined weigh less and boil more than a SuperCat and a bottle of Heat.

I like the concept of that video-series! And it´s really nice made and I can underline most you said. I have just one thing that came to my mind: When you get water from a little stream, put off the gloves. Just a little unawareness and they are wet ... especially with fleece-gloves ... they get damn cold when they are wet ... My best wishes and keep on with your wonderful videos!

The MSR stove and jet-boils are nice to have, but for simplicity and compactness, I like the USGI canteen kit (ALICE pouch, canteen, cup, stove, trioxane tablets). Other than the fuel tablets, all these components fit into a space not much bigger than the water canteen I already need to carry, leaving more space in my day pack for other gear.

if you have a titanium cup, why didn't you just boil the water in the cup? then you would have the perfect amount of water, and wouldn't have to transfer the water to a new container (which can lead to shitty accidents in the backcountry), and save you time!
