I have taken these off my regulators years ago, they're indeed useless and retain water and grime. I've had the same question asked a few times, and just like yours my regulators are in great shape compared to other divers'. I just rince my mk25s after each dive, and they're performing as new even though they've never been serviced. On the other hand, speaking about hoses, I will probably not buy Miflex hoses again. In my experience they're less durable than regular ones and tend to braid off.

I find them useful on my smooth pro tubes. It’s no problem at all to take them off after each dive to dry them . this way I also look after my equipment…

Your short hose (the one going down against the table in the video) has a bit of a kink/bubble near the fitting at the First stage. Might be worth replacing (in another couple hundred dives, hah!).

Thanks again for the great point of view Achim. Quick question: what do you think about MiFlex flexibles?

you can tell that the answer is NO simply by looking at the thumbnail :)

What about miflex HP hoses? They come with hose protectors, but I can never get them off. Maybe if I used a knife.

Smaller electrical side cutters used for electronics take small bites to cut a parallel line from one end of the hose protector to the other pulling the rubber apart as you proceed with the process taking care not to damage the hose. I cut all mine off my recreational rig a few years ago much cleaner and makes since for visual inspection. Also removing them reduces trapped salt water. Google: "Xcelite MS54J Flush Oval Head Cutter, Diagonal, Flush Jaw, 4" Length, 13/32" Jaw length, Green Cushion Grip" Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter

I understood that you said your regulator set gets an annual service every 10 years. Is that something you recommend? I ask because, to this point, I dive fresh water only, and there have been various recommendations on when you should service them. My regulator sets have been in use for 4-5 years, alternating between sets.

Until the Scuba police come for you , your dive , your equipment.

Only make sense in dive center gear cause they are all the time being carried wrongly and no delicately. For your own setup doesn’t make sense. And of course sharp angles in a configuration it’s just “stupid”

No.

They are strain protectors and are fine to use as long as you pull back, rinse and dry after use and before storage. I soak my regs pressurized (Atomics) after each trip with the protectors pulled back so check for bubble/leaks - so have none of the supposed issues you are highlighting here. It’s not that hard to maintain.

Yes, great but you missed the point of the video. The question was: Do you need them?
