Found this video. Great lesson. I just started learning guitar. I have question on your tab at 1:18, you put xx. Do you strike the string while mute them or just kill the note before it (777)?
@JoseOrozcoGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks so much for your question my friend! Yeah the x's are basically muted notes. Kill the strings and strike them so you get that "chooka chooka" sound. You don't have to do it exactly the same every time of course. It's a spur of the moment thing and even Mr. Gilmour will never do it the same twice :) Rock and take care 🎸

You played perfectly. So, tell me, does the Stratocaster really have that much of a different sound than other guitars (including yours)?? Is the equipment Floyd uses causing these sound differences (such as amplifier, etc)?? Or is it that Floyd has their music professionally engineered, and mastered?? I’m just wanting to know the degree to which these aspects effect the final sound when equally competent musicians play with different guitars and/or sound equipment. I’m thinking all of the above plays some role in putting out a different sound, but to what degree? So that leaves me with one last question. Is it accurate to say that ALL guitars will vary in sound from one to the next even when coming off the same “assembly line” so to speak?? Or does the instrument’s construction need to vary more before a noticeable difference will be heard?? Thanks for the eduction.

Hi Christy, that's such a great question!! I am by no means an expert in the world of guitar tone, but in short: yes! Every guitar has a unique sound that will have a sonic impact on the creative vision laid out by the artist/band/musician in question. A Fender Stratocaster has a much different sound than, say, a Gibson Les Paul. A Strat has a more twangy, delicate, and, chimey tone while a Les Paul has a more aggressive, bold, and thick sound. So the guitar is arguably the most important factor when it comes to how a recording sounds. As you mentioned, though, amplifiers, pedals, and microphones are also all VERY important to the sound as well. And on top of that, how the song is mixed and engineered is equally as important. Nonetheless, at the end of the day, a guitar is going to sound like a guitar and the most defining element in shaping the sound is the musician's touch, style of playing, and command of the instrument. Nowadays, there are thousands of effects and simulators that can alter a guitar's (or any instrument for that matter) sound, some even to the point where you can make a guitar sound like a piano and vice versa. This is just scratching the surface of course and there have been many books written on this subject :) so many other things contribute to sound including what woods are used to make guitars, the time period and location of a recording (a Pink Floyd album is going to sound different than an Ariana Grande album), and what kind of headphones you're using to listen to music.

How do you get such a great tone? Awesome cover btw.
@JoseOrozcoGuitar4 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it 👍🏻 I actually think I could've done better with the tone on this one haha between when I posed this and now I've learned so much more about mixing and tone. I feel like the guitar here was a bit dark/muddy. Gilmour's tone is more present and cuts through the mix more. I wish I could switch the audio out for a better version. Just my opinion though, glad you enjoyed it nonetheless

Oh and I use mostly the virtual amp sims in Logic Pro coupled with some third-party plug-ins to beef things up. I also use BIAS FX 2 (amp sim program) instead at times, just depends on what sounds better for a particular song 🤘🏻🎸
