"The level of civilization is evaluated by how one treats animals." I agree. But we have a long way to go in this matter. Most people in the "civilised" world still view animals as resources; food, clothes, entertainment, ornaments and for experimentation. More and more people are challenging these sort of norms, values and ideas, but it's still a small percentage of the world. Just look at the movie Dominion here on KZbin, and you will see a much more problematic picture.

Glad I found the abandoned kitten under my house before it was too late. Full grown now and a part of the family. Went from a tiny puffball in my hand and now I have a monster sized cat. Got to love him though.

My son who has autism worked for Sainsbury’s. One lunchtime he saved a woman’s life by doing CPR in the carpark. Didn’t even think to tell us. He was 16. First time I knew was when he was in the local paper being thanked by the woman he saved! He thought that was what everybody would have done and it was no big deal! X

Unfortunately, most people have a huge blindspot when it comes to animals. Most people love pets, and are angry when they see injustices to animals in other cultures. But most people are complacent in violence towards animals in the name of their own traditions and cultures, and disregard animal suffering in order to eat their bodies and wear their skins. This is a massive moral emergency that most people fail to acknowledge.

On a snowy day back in 1971, my Mom brought home a scraggly little Black Tom Kitten she found in the Hospital parking lot. He was running up to people, begging to be taken home. Some idiot kicked him..that was more than my Mom could stand. Anyway, he gave us 9 years of love before dying of Kidney Failure in late 1980!😢
