There must be countless numbers of people who want to or try to join. how do the judges ever manage something on this scale with this number of creatives?
@militaryzoned29643 жыл бұрын
@@charlieterry8506 the number of newcomers has indeed exploded since the video. However, the battles work by rounds and since a new round has already started, new characters cannot be submitted until the next round. Also the attacking team can only attack up to 25 different tiles per rounds, dispatching up to 25 artists, and with the 25 artists sent to defend there's a base of 50 "combatants" (some special tiles will host bigger battles instead of the normal 1vs1). This is what the judges go trough in details each rounds. It is capped because of the 25 tiles maximum. However to not exclude the "non-combatant" artists each rounds will see two zones designed as "Grand Battles" which have "less" impact on the overall contest (but will still be canon.). Here any artists can participate, either by submitting character development comics, fighting NPCs, or making their own collaboration matches with the other team. Instead of designating a winner like in tile matches based on a comic against another, Grand Battles are judged by team effort. For example I'm not fighting for a tile during this round, but I'm doing a "3vs4" collab for the Grand Battle. Apologies for the whole friggin page answers

It's legit hard to keep up with all the art being posted. For sanity reasons it's down to 50 artists per team in the main round. That's still best case 100 comics. It's so much to keep up with when you are also participating. Other nice things, it isn't a bracket so you can bow out for a round without being excluded later. Now everyone else, the people not selected in the roll call for the main event, are able to go about in a less structured thing that does have an impact for "Grand battles". They don't need opponents, but you are encouraged to arrange one with the enemy team. IT's very good for lower stakes character building. Turns out it is hard to go "HERE IS CHARACTER ADVANCEMENT" when you have an active fight main round with a bear! Also dealing with the canon situation stuff my last round I asked for my opponent to have a story beat so that it'd be canon regardless of outcome so I can set stuff up later. It's a whole thing.

This is essentially "Rock Hard Gladiators (RHG)" from the old stick figures animation hubs of early 2010s. So it's really cool!

I've done contests kind of like this before. Never anything THIS large-scale and organized, but I've done story-based tournaments pitting original characters against one another. But Rayuba is on a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL!

In Septi's version Eris just left the dog without mech limbs, so the dog is unable to move and likely unable to get out of the mech, meaning that the dog is just going to sit there unable to get food, slowly starving until it dies. O_O That's scary.

but the dog can eject from the mech and please dont reply bc that is the only way im rationalizing it to myself

This sounds like a great idea for a game jam too. Each round make a minigame where you have to beat your opponent in any way that you can imagine. Could be an action game, a puzzle game or anything experimental that you want to try. Would be pretty interesting to be honest. Even better if it had some standarized stuff so it could be possible to join all winning games (and losing games for the alternative side) into one massive project.

Oh, sounds like a very conceptually advanced version of the narrative art roleplaying that took place on /tg/ a long while back along with the several tactical play by post JRPGT art games that was played.

Ooo, I remember seeing people do this a decade ago and thinking it was really cool. Nice to see stuff like this still happening! Though I think it was usually a lot less people, and usually a FFA format, I think.

Yeah! I too remember reading him for the first time when he was blindknight in the DA tournament. His artstyle was sketchy but his storytelling and characterisation made it such that I never forgot about the adventures of Ophelia and Domo for over a decade and have been a fan of his ever since

This is brilliant, its made comic creation competitive. Competition produces innovation and increases the quality of product produced. Also, it's friendly and collaborative bringing peoples ideas together. This has the potential to be one of the biggest most influential events on the comic industry since its inception

This reminds me of the 2000's era community of stick figures flash animation: the idea was that each animator would create their own unique stick figure (with personality, appearance, skill set, and weapons) and would do solo 1v1 battle with each other; both animators would submit a choreographed animated fight between the two stick figures, and then the community would then vote on who won based on style, choreography, ... It was called RHG fights and if you are active on the internet during 2000's then I am sure you have seen at least 1 of those.

This strangely reminds me of stick figure animated fight tournaments from the early 2000s. A ton of ridiculous OCs and dream matchups in a larger universe. Even the judge-to-canon format and underdog storytelling is exactly the same as what happened on places like Stickpage.

I would love to jump in on something like this, but im more of a writer rather than a doodler. Really sparks memories of them olden days back when i did a lot of RP on places like RPGC or the incredibly hit and miss and often tedious and confusing IMVU scene. The problem i had back then was the lack of talent, or the total rule nazis over totally ambiguous and questionable rules. I think it would be incredibly neat to pull any of my older characters, and carrying over battle damage from the plethora of battles they would need to face. Would be neat. And i think an event like this, but for writers, could be incredibly neat and would potentially solve many of the problems i had, since in this, both sides win, and the judge chooses whats cannon. The rules are the ones that are placed by the judges, etc.

This reminds me of back in the day when stick figure and maple story animations were huge, where people animate against each other in VS matches and then the community votes on who's work is the winning/canon version of the fight.

I wish I could participate in something interesting as this. I used to draw comics all the time as a teenager but nowadays if I draw a stiff posed character once in a while is too much. Also Lancer is one of the most interesting RPG books I ever read. It's a shame my friends only play D&D

Back in the day, I used to RP on forums and it was always interesting how people shaped the narratives together. I like the idea of having multiple people compete to come up with the canon scenario!

This reminds me of these old forum art battles, I think it was called EnterVoid! It'd be awesome if they also had the "Lost Tales" version which has the other 50% of battles who lost instead, it'd be a shame to have them be lost to history.
