Save the drama, let's talk comics! Join John & Richard as they discuss the horrible proposed payment for comic book creators - are these publishers SERIOUS??? The Hot Book of the Week features yet another Doctor Doom cover - then they hit the Viewer Mailbag to talk about our viewers' reaction to the classic Elektra saga, plus the mystery of an incredibly obscure 80s indie variant. The Old Fart Rule takes us back to 1984 and a should-be-classic Pacific Comics cover. Finally, our Underrated Books of the Week include the return of Baron Zemo and an iconic DC 80 Page Giant!

Hi both, great show. On the old fart rule, unfortunately John is uncharacteristically incorrect! 3 Dimensional Alien Worlds did feature Dave Stevens art on 3 pages on the interior (featuring Marilyn Monroe to boot). The issue is notable as well as it features the 1st published work by Art Adams. I now hereby claim my Bronze and Modern Gods No Prize!

Hey guys, how are you Kshama? It’s been a bit of time since I’ve commented on one of your amazing videos but I just had to do it on this one. You guys took me back to the 1980s and one of the nostalgic ways that truly relate to me, I was a diehard alpha flight reader. I could not wait until the next issue was dropped at my local convenience store. Then the worst possible thing that I could imagine happened, an issue #12 they killed the vindicator. I mean what was marvel thinking he was the best super hero ever. I continued to purchase issues until number 36 when I just moved on. I recently pulled out my flight and reread the line. It was an easy read. I like some modern comics, but it still brought me back to some of my favorite collecting. The other book I also enjoyed back, then was power pack. To this day I still do not understand why the MCU has not done either of these two great IPOs.

I think I started that wave on new avengers #33. I sold like 25 copies on eBay last week. I figured it was only a matter of time before the public saw the spec potential I saw.

So not only does IDW want to pay their creators less, they also want them to do all the marketing for their product as well? Good grief

For the Bleeding Cool article about IDW creating comics for $200 a page, we definitely have to know how much they spend now. We should also know how much Marvel and DC spend to compare. With that said, aren't artists on multiple books at once? This way publishers can spread the cost?

Fellas Is it just me, or has Marvel ripped off DC more often than not 🤔🤔🤔 The older I get, the more I find out about Marvel's shady practices. It's taken away that luster that I use to have for Marvel. Anyhow, excellent show fellas!!! Good to see y'all bounced back from Thursday's ickyness 🤘😁

I'm tired of people assuming that everyone that presses and/or grades books is some kind of scalper who is ruining the hobby. I've never sold a book in my life. And besides, I mostly press and grade low-value comics that would incur that much more of a loss if I tried to sell them because of the cost to grade them. Maybe one day when I die, someone will appreciate all the worthless comics I've preserved 😅

If this news is true about IDW, they may as well go all the way and get rid of all the creatives and do the entire book with AI.

I don't know how they would be able to promise creators any of the back end money, either. Their entire catalog is licensed properties right now; if they don't own it, there isn't any future revenue to offer.

About the pressing issue: imagine buying a beautiful, but unwashed 1972 Porsche 911 Carrera RS, cost bank and worth bank. So...do you keep it unwashed/unwaxed or do you detail that car to as close to perfection as possible? Now imagine you want to sale the car? Of course you make it perfect. This does not change the car, it does not change to the color, you still have a numbers matching 911 worth....whatever the market will pay, currently $500k- $800k, so more than a coffee at Starbucks. Stay safe.

But you don't eat up the car at metal-melting temperature then put it back in the hydrolic press hoping the staples won't pop ;-)

That whole Avengers story was brain-frying, I lost interest very quickly. The cover art looks like Gabriele Dell'Otto to me. I don't know John, there are collectors driven to acquire rare comics (not necessarily valuable ones) such as that special edition of Scout #16 and 100 is a staggeringly low print run. 25 years ago Susan Cicconi was the only comic book restorer whose name I recognised - her professionalism was highly respected throughout the industry. Today anyone with a press can be a restorer. I'm not supporting one side over the other: I see it as a democratisation of restoration (or at least elements thereof) but at the cost of the precision of skills and depth of knowledge that comes with decades of experience. But John is right in that we can't reverse what's now entrenched. A number of Pacific Comics' SF and Horror anthology titles were thankfully picked up by Eclipse. These books (from both publishers) were somewhat hit-and-miss, as is the nature of the anthology format, but I still like them enough to re-read them.
